There’s a lot of talk in the React community about avoiding prop drilling in favor of context, hooks, or state management solutions like Redux. But, I’m wondering, are we overcomplicating things by trying to avoid prop drilling at all costs? Passing props from parent to child can actually be quite clean and straightforward in many cases. It’s often the most direct way to pass data when the component hierarchy is shallow. For 2-3 component levels, it works perfectly fine and keeps things easy to follow. Of course, when it gets deeper, other solutions might make more sense, but prop drilling still has its place in a well-structured React app.

I'm currently migrating my Opensource Web Projects from using Webpack to Rollup. And Vite provides the perfect tooling for that. It simplifies the Rollup setup and provides a development server with HMR. It also works perfect for building and bundling TypeScript libraries for reuse in other projects. Headless anything used to be a major undertaking… innovation like this is making it a minor implementation detail. The ability to use generative UI in the development process is a productivity boost that can’t be understated. Even if it’s just GitHub copilot running in your IDE, the LLM’s abilities with react and tailwind allow small teams to product big value on to users in shorter timeframes.

I've been doing development for over 25 years, and if there's anything I've learned, it's that… value to the business > anything else. Good code isn't necessarily the prettiest code, but instead solves clear business problems. Even with it's initial learning curve, Next.js has allowed our engineering team Planetary to maximize our ability to provide value to our clients, and minimize time spent re-engineering age-old route handling, performance, and rendering problems. (And we can still deliver both pretty and good code.) If you haven't gotten tickets yet, I'd recommend getting virtual (or in-person!) attendance tickets to this year's Next.js Conf: https://nextjs.org/conf. I very rarely lean into talking about project architectures and frameworks, but I've been consistently impressed by what the Next.js team has been able to deliver, and I'm curious to see what they have on the docket for 2024.

Enums are a great topic for beginner developers! Enums are also a great topic for senior developers because they're often used ineffectively! If you're looking for a simple view of how to get started with enums, this is a great spot. Understanding how they're defined and how they can be used is the initial focus, and then building on that for more complex scenarios can follow. TL;DR If you’re building a full-stack web app with modern, server-rendered frameworks like Angular and Next, use Firebase App Hosting.
