You operate from a customer-first point of view. Every action is taken with an empathetic lens through your customers eyes. You prioritize your customer and future customers first. It doesn't always mean they are right but it does mean their needs are the right priority, and the first priority. So many companies say they are customer-centric, but when brands and companies are called to task, they often start with what's easiest, best, most convenient for them or of concern for them. If you feel like your pitch to buyers isn’t hitting the mark, even when you’ve done your homework: It might not be your content that’s off. You might be missing the signals your audience is sending. Having spent countless hours in rooms physically observing decision makers and CISOs listen to sales people talk, I’ve seen pitches that should work on paper but fall flat in practice. The successful ones understand the subtle cues that tell them when to pivot. Buzzwords can be powerful, but without real-world context, they can alienate audiences. FUD stats that don’t resonate, or name-dropping connections without real ties, can backfire. Jargon might impress a few, but it can also create distance if not used thoughtfully. The most underrated skill that can transform your pitch: Reading the room. When you tune into the non-verbal cues - those subtle shifts in body language or expression - you gain the insight to adjust your message in real-time. It’s about making a connection, not just delivering information. So here’s a reminder to take away: Pay attention to body language and facial expressions. Tailor your pitch on the spot to match your audience’s mood and needs. Address potential objections before they’re voiced. Focus on building a genuine connection that goes beyond the sale. Make sure your audience comprehends and is with you every step of the way to avoid misunderstandings. What if YOU took started asking more questions and reading the room, instead of dominating the conversation? Wouldn't that make for a much more valuable and positive experience for all involved? Ha that’s a new term – cookiepocalypse 🍪! Definitely feels like #marketers have been anticipating it for quite some time, and we’re kind of in limbo now that Google has scrapped its plan to fully deprecate third-party cookies. At this point, kudos to all the brands who are actively enhancing their first-party data strategies! Not only are they prepared for any future cookiepocalypse, but it’s also just stronger for building better customer experiences and yielding results.

78% of B2B buyers end up choosing a vendor/product they were already familiar with before they even started the formal buying process (and that number rises to 86% for enterprise buyers!)* In short, buyers in 2024 are settling for "the safe choice" and picking the products they're familiar with. And if that's the case, then having Marketing simply focus more on demand capture is not going to address your organization's growth mandate. In an era where the safe choice is the default choice, Marketing has to spend more effort on demand creation, content and thought leadership, and B2B influencer marketing. All of this leads to stronger brand development and a stronger downstream demand for your products or services.

If you’re doing outbound sales, start at the top. If you catch the attention of the C-Suite, and they forward your email because they don’t have time… the recipient (likely the actual decision maker) will feel more obligated to get a demo. Think about it: How many times have you demoed software because YOU replied to a sales email? -versus- How many times have you demoed software because your boss or your boss’s boss forwarded you an email and said “can you look into this software?” - You feel obligated to get at least look into it and probably get a demo. #B2BSales #B2BMarketing
