This is AWESOME!!!!! Hey Janko! Check out our GSD / ROI. Feel free to share this. With your help, we have literally changed our entire business over the last three years! 3 AE’s and 1 Sales Director total comp paid - salary plus commissions over the last 3 years = $2.2M. Total sales in that same 3 year period = $15.6M ARR. You suggested that we set quotas at about 5.5x of OTE and we are actually much higher than that! We are at 7.1x sales to comp! What is even better is that our average contract length is 3 years and we pay commissions up front. So the ROI is really much higher than that. In our previous 6 years we did a total of just under $6M total. We are now cash flow positive and have not taken on any outside funding. It’s time to expand. Sales folks especially SDRs and AEs I will tell you a hack about how to achieve more in less time ↓ "Start blocking your calendar thoughtfully and strategically every single day" Working out of whims & fancies and adhocism will not get you the desired result you aspire to achieve. You need to have a plan for your day even before starting the day. Every time you block your calendar make sure you block it for a single activity and you define what output you want to achieve out of this activity. Have a time block for at least Prospecting, Identifying new accounts, and Follow-ups on a daily basis, the rest you can block based on your roles and KRAs. Remember: "You cannot control time but you can surely control how you want to spend the time"

When onboarding a new AE I focus their first 4 weeks entirely on understanding our clients and client success teams. This means shadowing our CS reps, watching onboarding calls, watching activation calls, sitting in on strategy sessions and planning calls, and handling CS calls in week 4. All of this before we ever begin to start talking about sales enablement or taking sales calls. Why? Because too many sales organizations are 100% seller centric. I am passionate, some may say maniacal about ensuring our sales force is the most customer centric team in the industry. This means our AE's need to understand our customers, their status quo, be able to deliver thought provoking insights, the problems we solve, why they work with us, and the results we get them deeply before they can sell that way. Sending someone into the deep end to "learn by experience" is a go to for many. But I will never be swayed that this is the best way. The best way to create "at bats" and build confidence without burning potential opportunities is to ensure your AE's are learning as much about your customers as possible. This coupled with strong sales enablement, process, and clear expectations will set them up for long term success. Sure they may not be making dials and having meetings 2 weeks in. But I can assure you they will be more successful a year from now then the rep in that situation the majority of the time. True sales leadership is about long-term results. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I believe it is one of the biggest advantages you can give your new hires to increase their chances of long-term success. At the end of the day, my responsibilities as a sales leader are to be fanatical about our customers ensuring our clients and potential clients receive a world class experience. Set our sellers up for success to deliver that, and create an environment where people grow, win, and are challenged on the regular. By doing this, revenue targets take care of themselves. If you're onboarding new AE's in Q3, I would challenge you to try this if you're not. Happy EOQ!

The best "cheat codes" every AE should know: 1. 1:1s with your boss. Approach them strategically. Proactively share format and content. Biggest deals you need support on. Challenges you need help with. Forecast for the month, quarter, etc. Wins. 2. Perception. Performance is your fire. How you're perceived internally (aka your brand) is the water or gas that gets dumped on your fire. Attitude, how you show up, handle change, communicate, matters. Hold yourself to a high bar. Two levels above where you're currently at. 3. Document everything. Take the time to write down your own sales playbook. Every strategy, process and template you have. Store it on your personal computer. The value of this over time is immeasurable. I can't state this enough. 4. Problems are a good thing. Anytime there's a problem that's an opportunity to solve it, improve it, and add value. Some of the biggest opportunities I've gotten in my career came because I dove head first into problems and helped move the business forward. Startups always have problems. Don't be the negative person. 5. Time management. Block Monday mornings every week. Don't go to meetings if they're not worth your time. Most things can be solved async. Make meetings 15 to 20 mins. Sometimes you need a whole week of no meetings to catch up, get organized and do deep work. Don't feel bad for saying no to people. They'll understand. 6. External coaching. Up level by listening to podcasts, taking courses and building an external network. Don't rely on your company for everything. Even if they're doing a great job get the perspectives and strategies of other people for a significant edge. Make AEs your first sales hires, not SDRs. I’m often asked what the 1st sales team should look like. Do you hire founding SDRs or founding AEs? I recently asked Ben Miller what he thinks. Here is what he shared: You should hire x2 AEs as your founding sales team. You need people who can do everything. And you need AEs who can build their own pipeline. Hiring the 2 at once ensures you still have momentum if 1 doesn’t work out. But you need to hire the right kind of AE. You need to find the balance between someone that can execute very complex sales processes and deliver revenue, with someone that has the flexibility and dynamism you need in a startup environment. So if you are looking to transition from founder-led sales make sure you nail that 1st AE hire!

🤯 “Ramping up SDRs, AEs and CS people  takes us no less than 6 months.” 💣 🙈 This is what I heard on a recent demo from  a CRO of a rapidly scaling tech business. 📈 Time to efficiency is a struggle Heads of Sales Enablement and Customer Success are going through across their commercially-driven teams… 📖 At the moment, they expect internal  sales and CS decks, call recordings,  business pitches, etc. should do the job. 🙄 But it doesn’t! 🗓️ They're wasting too much time for people to start performing, closing deals, effectively onboarding customers, reducing churn & upselling… ❌ Sometimes, they still don’t perform... And then guess what? SDR Leaders: “I statements” are killing your reps! Are your SDRs inadvertently making conversations about themselves? It's time to shift the focus. 🚫 "I think it would be a good idea for you to speak with one of my AEs..." 🚫 "I would love to show you our platform..." These "I" statements put your company and SDR first. They scream, "This is how I get paid!" Let's flip the script. The Golden Rule of SDR Conversations: -It's never about the SDR. -It's never about your company. -It's always about the prospect and their pain points. Action Steps for SDR Leaders: -Stomp out "I" statements during role-plays -Train SDRs to disconnect from the outcome (h/t Josh Braun ) -Emphasize: Not every prospect is a fit, and that's OK Remember, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Coach your SDRs to focus on understanding the prospect's needs first. If there's no fit, move on gracefully. By making this shift, your SDRs will build better relationships, have more meaningful conversations, and ultimately, drive better results. But I could be wrong 😑

i’ve run marathons that were less exhausting than some of the demos i’ve sat thru lately. here’s 6 sure fire ways to lose your prospect in 30 minutes or less: 1. do ZERO research know nothing about your prospect, their product or their business BONUS if you had an SDR qualify them first AND you completely disregard those notes #winning 2. make sure the deck is loooong i mean, make that bad boy 20+ slides, all text, 10pt font (pro tip, use a ridiculous font like papyrus to really keep them engaged) 3. call them by the wrong name people love it when you have no idea who you’re talking to or why you’re there or why they’re there or what the hell we are doing in the first place it’s the best 4. feature dump only no benefits, just show me the bells and whistles. i want zero context for how it solves my problem- tell me WHAT only, and never explain WHY now we are getting somewhere ;) 5. talk for 29/30 mins i don’t have anything to add. there is nothing for you to learn from me. you don’t require context or need to know what i’m thinking so far. keep going! never stop. i promise i am retaining 100% of everything you’re saying 6. don’t disclose pricing ESPECIALLY if i ask about it keep it vague. i dont need to budget. just suprise me at the end of the sales cycle. i LOVE a good jump scare. 👻 in all seriousness, so many of these things are honest mistakes or even trained behaviors. (lordt knows i did half of these when i was a rep 🫠) my seller friends, this is not a dig on you, just a silly reminder of some of the silly mistakes we all make in sales. it’s an opportunity to learn. but if you can avoid these pitfalls i can almost guarantee you’re halfway to a good demo, my friends shout out to Kyle Coleman & Annie Ng for giving two of the BEST demos i’ve seen in the past few months (fun fact, they’re marketers yall). crazy what happens when you’re not shoving people thru a sales cycle 🤷🏻‍♀️ (actual footage of my last braincell dying during my 4th demo of Q2 for a tool that, yet again, doesn’t do the one thing i need it to do even though i was assured it does prior to showing up to the meeting) buying is hard.
