PROSOFT is hiring a Budget Technician with a TS/SCI at our USCENTCOM, MacDill AFB, FL location to plan, program, and budget, execute and facilitate reconciliation of assigned budgets for the HQ Staff. Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work. Conduct analysis by reviewing and tracking budget allocations and actual expenditures, maintain financial records for all financial documents for current and prior Fiscal Years, contracts, government purchase card, government travel cards, and Defense Travel System (DTS) travel documents. Track lines of accounting, fund sites, and other data elements and conduct proactive engagement, collaboration, and communication (both orally and electronically) with the Directorates/Special Staff points of contact. Track incoming and outgoing government funding documents. Process reimbursable MIPRs, establish the reimbursable in the accounting system, and coordinate with the staff on the management of the reimbursable funds. Use automated financial management systems and computer-generated products to accomplish financial management requirements and objectives. Confirm the accuracy of automated system database information and inform Resource Advisors and/or financial management personnel of significant problems, trends, and/or variances/discrepancies. Use various computer software and web-based programs to produce required financial reports, plans, and schedules. Assist with the preparation of annual spend plans to allocate appropriated funds to individual activities/requirements/functional areas. Assist with the development of narrative justifications statements and presentation materials for budget submissions, unfunded requirements. Perform a weekly analysis of actual expenditures compared to planned utilization of annual budget and/or allotment authority, evaluate fund availability to achieve balance of approved objectives and determine where reprogramming actions may be necessary. Align requirements to appropriate sources of funding and develop, package, process, and track financial data/results/impacts/trends. Participate in review, validation, and funding recommendation meetings for execution year UFRs. Process Journal Vouchers and Standard Form 1080/1081 accounting under direction of government oversight. Monitor current and prior year de-obligations, identify discrepancies, and ensure corrections are made in the financial system. Assist with clearing the open document list and working the dormant account review quarterly (DAR-Q); Monitor, analyze, and reconcile current and prior year commitments and obligations. An Air Force leader asked me how many months before hanging the uniform he needed to start preparing for the corporate journey. While this was a personal question, I see it as relevant for almost every transitioning military person. One common observation I have seen often in the last 11+ years of my veteran hiring experience is that all those who start their preparation two to three years before their transition are the ones who have multiple job offers in hand. On the other hand, for those who start their journey towards the fag end of their military career, many of them take a few months even after their transition to get an offer. And if having a job offer is the barometer of a successful transition, then I would say starting a minimum of two years prior would be an ideal time. (Say the last posting of your military tenure) If I write this in military vocabulary, Time is your friend if you start preparing two to three years before transition and it would be your enemy if you start a month or two before transition. Here's the second post to share information and insights to answer one of most frequently asked questions: how does my military experience translate to jobs in a commercial market? This month, I would like to share what I learned about the RMA (Return Merchandize Authorization) process and how your experiences can help companies mitigate risks and add value to the chain. RMA Program Administrator (PA)/Program Manager (PM) works to fulfil customer requirements of repairing and returning critical items. Daily responsibilities include: 1) Review warranty and/or non-warranty repair requests and assign RMA tracking numbers 2) Review RMA purchase orders for returned items and work with contracts department for the acceptability/feasibility 3) Once the order is processed, track and reconcile fixed/shipped items against requirements 4) Work with finance for invoice/payment process and follow ups 5) Assist with inventory and audit Sounds familiar? It should be, especially for those Marines with MOS 3043/3051/3047(*new merged MOS for those salty pre-Houthi fighting era Leathernecks) and 3010 CWOs If you ever worked at one of the Repairable Issue Points (RIP), you are uniquely qualified to work in the RMA business segment at various companies in electronic, semiconductor, automative, medical device, aerospace, or defense manufacturing industry. You have demonstrated that you possess skills, knowledge, abilities and attitude to contribute greatly because: - You were that 3051 Cpl who was responsible for reconciling due-in vs inventory/capacity - 3043 Sgt who was very good at daily and weekly reconciliation and processing of thousands of Oracle ERP Service Requests - SNCO who was excellent in communicating with demanding customers to problem solve missing information, late deliveries and etc. - CWO who worked out throughput analysis with engineers (commodities) and supply chain challenges with LOGCOM/DLA for strategic shaping a year out Embrace unfamiliar job titles, take chances, and strive for excellence. hashtag #payforward

🔥🔥When are you retiring/ETSing?🔥🔥 Are you looking for your first role post military career? My advice is generally always the same! If you do these things, you increase your odds a ton! This is all 2nd to networking, always network and talk to as many people you know to let them know you are looking! People love helping! Know your audience, ensure you are on the proper Job boards for 2 reasons so you can easily be found by recruiters and to have job alerts set up for you to apply quickly. Don't forget recruiting is so much about timing, set up alerts and be the first to apply! Proper job boards is subjective; My opinion on job boards you should be on is: Indeed (great for local roles) Clearance Jobs (Great for cleared government roles and government contracting roles) LinkedIn-(Its all-encompassing  you should be on here and connect to the audience you want to work with for instance if you want to work in the Defense space, go on and connect with people with DOD companies who look to hire Veterans all the time!) Helpful hint: I was reviewing a company’s PowerPoint presentation who said they submitted a supplier profile. I went to review said profile, but I could not find it. They referenced their company’s name in the presentation in three different types of abbreviations. Nowhere did they state their full company’s name that was on the profile. Remember, I don’t know your company. If you want to do business with me, make sure your profile and your presentations and your Sam registration all coordinate. There is nothing small about small business!!

When you are not qualified for a job you want and apply anyway because some LinkedIn clown told you to shoot your shot....but you missed. 👀 When applying to most defense government jobs, or with companies who are OFCCP compliant (look it up), you need to meet 100% of the requirements. At bare minimum, you should meet at least 80% as SOMETIMES the government client MAY make SOME exceptions. For example, if they are seeking someone with 10 years' experience but you only have 7 and meet the other requirements, they may still consider you; it just depends on whether you have the major skills they are seeking and how bad they are trying to fill that role. Also, as a recruiter, I will keep candidates in mind who didn't meet the criteria for a particular role but may meet 100% of the requirements for a DIFFERENT role---- which brings me to my next point 👇 Don't get nasty with a recruiter/hiring manager/employer if your application gets rejected for the role you applied for; they may still be considering you for another current role or consider you for FUTURE roles that they feel you may be a better fit for and may sometimes even offer better pay. I’m leaving the military – How do I translate my military skills to a civilian job? Writing a civilian resume with military credentials requires careful translation of military experiences, skills, and achievements into language that civilian employers can understand and appreciate. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you effectively highlight your military background on a civilian resume: 1. Choose the Right Format: Opt for a chronological or functional resume format. A chronological resume lists your work history in reverse chronological order, while a functional resume emphasizes skills and qualifications over specific job titles and dates. 2. Translate Military Job Titles: Replace military job titles with civilian-friendly equivalents that accurately reflect your roles and responsibilities. Use online resources, military-to-civilian occupation translators, or job descriptions from related civilian positions to find appropriate equivalents. 3. Highlight Relevant Skills and Accomplishments: Identify and emphasize the skills, qualifications, and achievements that are directly transferable to the civilian workplace. Focus on areas such as leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, project management, technical expertise, and training. 4. Quantify Achievements: Whenever possible, quantify your accomplishments with specific metrics or numbers. For example, instead of stating “Managed a team,” say “Led a team of 10 personnel, resulting in a 25% increase in productivity.” 5. Use Civilian Language: Avoid military jargon and acronyms that may be unfamiliar to civilian employers. Use clear, concise language that anyone can understand. 6. My thoughts for the day on organizations developing an endstate for their #DoDSkillBridge program and the fit of the program in the organization's overall Strategic Workforce Plan (SWP). ➡The DoD SkillBridge program should be apart of your organization's overall SWP and the workforce planning process. 👉This is not meant to be a SWP post but, if your organization does not have a SWP your organization is continuing to operate reactive versus proactive and you are losing talent, efficiencies, and competitiveness because of this (happy to discuss). ❓My hypothesis would be: Part of the reason we see organizations struggling with the SkillBridge program, to include the new DoD guidance for SkillBridge, is because they lack a coherent workforce plan, which the SkillBridge program would be apart of.🤔 Ok I digressed a bit. 🤣 Here is an example endstate for an organization for their participation in the DoD SkillBridge program (for example purposes I will use Serco NA as the organization).⬇ ➡Endstate: Serco-NA integrates highly skilled, trained and motivated transitioning service members into the Serco workforce, filling critical positions, skill gaps while developing and fostering long-term employment relationships that contribute to the Serco's growth and success. In doing this Serco is recognized as a preferred employer for veterans (sidenote--we are) and maintains a strong relationship with the DoD SkillBridge program, ensuring a continuous pipeline of skilled talent while supporting our transitioning veterans.💪👍 You can clearly see multiple goals in that statement while also using the program to support the overall strategic workforce plan. 💯With the endstate established (done first) and nested inside the organization's SWP you can now apply the ➡Ways (training programs, mentors, apprenticeship that align with the servicemember's skills AND the organizations needs) ➡Means (partnership, no cost training, skilled workforce access) to accomplish the goal.🥇 If anyone wants to talk further about any of this I am happy to do so. Does my military experience translate to a civilian industry? The answer is it depends. What does it depend on? What industry your military experience matches to and how did you do your job. For example, in the Army we have S1 which is human resources, S2 which is security, S3 operations, S4 Logistics and procurement, and S6 Cyber Security and networking. What about Project and Program management? Well yes but it also depends. For example a company, BN, or BDE Master Driver. Do they run a military program? Yes But how do they run it. Do you simply print licenses when told to do so or do you track active licenses, awards, sustainment training, and maintaining compliance all year round not just before an inspection? What about UMO, UPL, DTS, Schools, Supply, and other additional duties? How you do your job in the military matters when translating it into industry experience in the civilian sector. How do you get better? Implement industry best practices in management and watch your influence and performance grow rapidly through formal training in HR, Project Managment, Statistical Quality Control, or Operations Managment. A certification doesnt mean anything until you can apply it to your day to day work and improve company outcomes. Simliar to my fellow SAPPER TAB bearers in the Army. We learned how to operate efficiently and improve lethality at Sapper School and we showcase what our tabs represent by passing on that knowledge not just in an instructional setting but also in a tactical or training scenario. I didn't just wear my tab I beared it and the responsibility to be the cutting edge of my countries sword. How has it helped me? Well I literally Project Managed myself into a job in workforce development. How did I do it? By applying what I learned through professional certifications and my military experience. What does my experience consist of? Combat Engineer, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, OC/T, and BDE S3 Operations NCO. Did you see workforce development there? No, but what did you see? Tons of hands on management in austere environments using systems of records and program reports to drive organizational efficiency. Does that count??? It depends... On what? If you value someone who can flat out manage and learn industry specific practices through OJT. Some industries are locked by experience but for those of you lucky enough to be a non-combat MOS you have that in spades. What about my fellow combat Arms Soldiers?? Well it depends.... Are you using industry recognized best practices, received formal management training, validated that training by a certifying body, and do you implement what you learned?

🤪 Top 5 Lessons Learned During My Military Transition As a recent military transitioner, I quickly learned that the transition process is a complex journey filled with unexpected challenges. While our military experience equips us with invaluable skills, it’s crucial to adapt to the civilian workforce. 🔢 Here are the top 5 lessons I learned: 🤝 1. Network!: Building strong relationships is key. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people, even strangers. Cold calls and messages can be intimidating and awkward!, but persistence pays off. Leverage your military network and explore civilian connections. After a few calls and meet-ups its gets easier! A lot of us want to be project managers,, you'll come to see as you network that there are project managers for hundreds of different things and industries (construction, IT, Cyber, Public Works, public transit, aviation, maintenance, etc...). What industry do you want to contribute to? 😆 2. Embrace Humility: While our military accomplishments are impressive, it’s important to approach the civilian world with humility. Understand that industry standards and processes may differ significantly from military practices. We may have been rockstars in the military but it doesn't necessarily mean our military processes will translate on the outside. Civilian terminology, contract language, budget concerns, general know how, environmental and health concerns can significantly deter a project your trying to accomplish if you go about it the Military way. 👏 3. Find a Mentor: A mentor can provide invaluable guidance and support. Seek out someone who has successfully transitioned and can offer practical advice. A good mentor can help you navigate challenges, identify opportunities, stay motivated, and just outright tell you whether you are messing up big time or not doing enough! Also seek a mentor when you land your first job! This is essential in learning everything discussed in #2. 📝 4. Optimize Your Resume: Your resume is your first impression. Use tools like Hire Heroes USA to translate military jargon into civilian terms. Tailor your resume to each job application, highlighting relevant experiences and qualifications. Use those genuine connections your making to chop your resume as well. 😁 5. Build Your Personal Brand: Actively engage on LinkedIn by sharing insights, commenting on posts, and joining relevant groups. Showcase your personality and expertise through thoughtful content like sharing stories about your family or writing an article on something you consider yourself an expert in. A strong personal brand can help you attract potential employers and recruiters and give insight to the kind of person you are. Vets know how to smile! Imposter syndrome is not humility - it's a hurdle. I often hear veterans downplay their impact: "I was just a supply specialist," "I was just junior enlisted," or "I was just a military spouse." This isn't modesty. You're underselling your worth. Every military role, irrespective of its rank or nature, plays a crucial part in the mission’s success. Minimizing your contributions can inadvertently project a lack of confidence - something you definitely want to avoid during job interviews. Here’s a reality check: Every role within the military community adds significant value to the American economy. Your experiences, skills, and perspectives are needed.
