Last week, SHRM announced they're renaming DE&I to I&D and it makes me so mad. But not for the reason you might think. As an authenticity freak, I see this whole issue through a different lens. It doesn't matter WHAT you call it; it matters HOW you deliver it. Our 2022 report, "The Impact of Authenticity in the Workplace," uncovered mind-blowing data regarding how authentically training programs are delivered and their related effectiveness. ✅ Programs delivered with extreme authenticity were considered 99% effective by respondents ❌ Programs delivered with extreme inauthenticity were considered 16% effective by respondents (even programs considered "somewhat inauthentic" were only considered 39% effective) So, let's stop reworking the acronyms and fighting over what's needed and start implementing programs with real talk, unique content, and done in a way that doesn't BS anyone through it. (and yes this is, in part, work I do - both talking about authenticity as something tangible and that takes work AND it's always delivered with 100% authenticity) #DEI #InclusionAndDiversity #SHRM #HumanResources #authenticity

I have probably spoken to the Texas PTA State Conference 13 or so times over the past 35 or so years. Yes, I still speak to parents and parent groups. Even with my more modern mother/daughter seminar for H.S. girls before they go to college, it is much the same. I empathize with parents today, facing not only the challenges and even threats of old, but with today's enhanced threats of online and even AI or deep fake technologies that can put their kids and teens at-risk. For companies with parents (#hrmanagers #hrdirectors take note) I also offer such parent seminars as a value-add point of #employeeengagement and even #employeeretention to further enhance such relations.  The Resilience Blueprint: Crafting Stronger Leaders for Tomorrow In a world that often emphasizes hard skills and job training, we risk overlooking a critical piece of workforce development—our shared humanity. Recently, I had the privilege of collaborating with a remarkable cohort of 10 young adults from the Buffalo Center for Health Equity Environmental Justice Corps program to delve into the vital world of emotional resilience through an innovative approach I call The Resilience Blueprint. This program wasn’t your typical job-training module. Instead, we went deeper. We integrated clinical insights with creative expression to support these young participants, many of whom have endured significant stress, in building resilience and emotional intelligence. Why combine the clinical with the artistic? Because resilience isn’t solely about “bouncing back”; it’s about understanding and navigating emotions and experiences with self-compassion and strength. Traditional job skills are essential, but when we empower individuals to address stress with emotional awareness, creativity, and strength, we’re not only preparing them for the workforce—we’re helping them thrive as individuals. Going Beyond Job Training: Human-centered, holistic programming means moving beyond checklists and skill-based evaluations to create spaces that foster personal growth, self-worth, and authentic leadership. This resilience-focused approach isn’t a “nice-to-have”—it’s essential for building leaders who are both adaptable and empathetic, qualities that are invaluable in any field. As we reshape the future of workforce development, let’s integrate creative minds who can show up for young people in ways that honor their experiences, nurture their strengths, and empower their voices. Here’s to the young adults in the Environmental Justice Corps, who have shown that resilience is more than a skill; it’s a craft. And here’s to the future of programming that prioritizes the whole person, cultivating a generation equipped to lead with both heart and grit.
