Last week, I had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Sri Shivananda during a fireside chat at the 2nd annual Intuit PE Summit. Over 250 top engineers in Intuit from all over the world gathered at the event, making it the perfect opportunity to discuss AI and the transformative role of leadership in tech innovation. Sri’s human-first approach to leadership and emphasis on fostering soft skills sparked an engaging discussion about the power of influence in the workplace. The primary operating system of an organization involves reporting relationships - such as manager to employee. However, real information sharing, work, and collaboration actually occur through a secondary network of experts connecting with each other to achieve the highest possible velocity. Sri emphasized the importance of combining IQ with emotional intelligence (EQ), curiosity (CQ), and grit to drive innovation forward and the pivotal role that we, as engineers, play in this process. False alerts in fraud and anti-money laundering (AML) systems, transaction screening systems and even disputes can be costly for banks. Despite being well known problem the scalable, explainable AI solutions to manage false alerts across fraud, AML, screening and KYC are far and few. Our estimate it could be over $20-30 billion problem for US banks alone. Quinte is launching its fraud management product and I will be glad to share our approach of better fraud detection and management along with false alert managment. I will be at the American Bankers Association conference in Seattle between 11th to 14th June 2024 and I will be sharing our approach to reduce fasle alerts in these AI models in fully explainable way. We estimate that false alerts in Fraud and AML could be leading to 1. High False Positive Rates: Over 95% of transaction monitoring alerts are false positives, leading to billions of dollars lost annually in investigations and operational inefficiencies. 2. Operational Costs: False positives waste analysts' time and increase operational costs, reducing overall efficiency. 3. Resource Allocation: Banks misallocate resources by pursuing non-AML risks, leading to financial losses and inefficiencies. 4. Compliance Impact: Delays in investigating genuine suspicious activities due to high false positive volumes can result in non-compliance penalties and reputational damage. 5. Analyst Fatigue: The high volume of false positives contributes to analyst fatigue and exacerbates the talent shortage in AML compliance. 6. Technological Investments: Banks are investing in advanced technologies like machine learning and AI to reduce false positives, which also represents a significant financial investment. In addition, Anomaly detection with LLMs is a promising area looking forward to engaging discussion on these topics at the conference.

Quite a week for the team at Kubiya.ai; announced their round lead by Heavybit and get tapped for a Gartner Cool Vendor. Skip the AI hype and go straight to practical applications that actually solve real pain. I’m clearly biased I invested in Kubiya.ai. Simple thesis, it’s what I wish I had when I did this work. I led what would now be called a platform team at Cloudera. We worked with the tools of the day (Puppet, Jenkins, etc). Automate all the things was the battle cry. We automated, scripted, tooled and were still behind the eight ball. It wasn’t enough to automate if we were still in the middle. We needed a way to get control of the interrupt driven work. The unplanned but core to the function work. If this sounds familiar you should try Kubiya.ai.

Rupert Spira is one of the leading lights of Advaita vedanta in present times. The words he speaks come directly from the source (infinity) and have the potency to lead you to infinity. The simplicity and clarity of the teachings is remarkable. Advaita provides an effective solution to the problem of pain and suffering. Human life is such that pain and suffering can not be avoided altogether. There are ways to get temporary relief but that's not a true solution. Through Advaita one can transcend pain and suffering. It's a paradigm shift because it does nothing to the pain and suffering but alters ones identification with it. This directly reduces the effect pain and suffering has on one. Advaita also addresses the perennial problem of search for happiness in outside things by conclusively showing that you are the source of what you are searching. Understanding this knowledge and living it gives instant peace and access to bliss. Highly recommend this beautiful and subtle piece of work by Rupert. ~S~
