As one who interacts with CMOs all the time I can tell you this topic is at or near the top of their collective priority list. And while I am skeptical of those who espouse best practices when it comes to generative AI - only because it is so nascent - I felt compelled to share this particular piece from my fellow CMSWire scribe, Tiffany Holland Why? Glad you asked. I felt compelled for the simple fact I agree with everything Tiffany opined on, which she breaks down into four truths, which are below along with my brief commentary. Do yourself a favor and read her piece. ➡️ Truth #1: Inaction With Generative AI in Marketing Is the Greatest Risk Yes, yes and YES. If I could climb the highest mountain I would and bellow this to the masses below. This ain't the time to "sit this one out" whilst the rest of the world, AKA your competition is taking full advantage. ➡️ Truth #2: Generative AI Offers More Value Than Just Operational Efficiency Tiffany deftly writes of the "narrow view" many CMOs and marketers have of Gen AI, which "offers only short-term benefits and overlooks the true power of machine learning." Full Stop! Read and re-read that over and over and over and then, for the love of all things Holy, do NOT blame Gen AI if you do not adhere to this sage advice. ➡️ Truth #4: Ethical Governance of Generative AI in Marketing Is Critical I love that Tiffany saved this one for last because it is THE most important truth, by far. Gen AI and AI in general, is very much akin to the wild west right now; no rules of governance other than those self-imposed. Brands MUST self-govern the way they use Gen AI if for no other reason, it is the ethical thing to do. Please share your thoughts on all of this. 💰Capitalism is complicated 🤑 It’s expanded economic opportunity for a variety of groups, but it also serves a system of oppression in itself. Now, more than ever before in capitalist history, consumer buying power is more diverse as communities of color are looking to engage with brands that make them feel seen, heard and valued. "In an age where AI is becoming increasingly prevalent, the concept of authenticity has taken on new significance, particularly for Gen Z. Born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, this generation has grown up in a digital age where social media and online personas are part of everyday life – as are misinformation and disinformation. So Gen Z has had to develop an acute ability to discern what is genuine from what is artificial." Delivering quality Person-Centered Events requires knowing your audience. Gen Z is the future of event audiences, and already represents a good portion. I submit that while they value authenticity more than ever, that craving has been increasing each generation. I know I smell a "fake" message quicker than my parents, and I tolerate it less. My kids are better than me in sniffing out disingenuous messages. As agencies, we must help our clients find their authentic voice when communicating to their customers, and especially to their people.

I’m a big “no” to AI advertising inclusivity scores and indexes. This AI tool is debuting after the concept’s expiration date has already passed. Standardized scorecards are kryptonite to super creative. If diverse representation in an ad will sell more stuff to more people for higher prices more often, then every good marketer I know will be focused on making the ad inclusive. While marketers are out here fighting for authentic, human-centered stories, X releases the ability to generate images without guardrails via their AI chatbot, Grok. Yes, other AI platforms also have the ability to generate images. The difference between those platforms and X are the ethical checks and balances put in place to deter malicious content creation. “Other mainstream image generators have developed more policy guardrails to prevent abuse. Given the same prompt to generate an image of ballot drop box stuffing, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus responded with a message “I’m unable to create an image that could be interpreted as promoting or depicting election fraud or illegal activities”.” The Grok-generated images created and shared within this report are unerving to say the least. https://lnkd.in/gGuYvi_d
