Dr. David Shelor Global research (Six Seconds State of the Heart Report 2024 – Global Emotional Intelligence Recession) reveals that there has been an overall decline in Emotional Intelligence over the last 4 years, characterized by burnout and low well-being. This translates to an overall decline in people’s self-awareness, self-management, and clarity of purpose. These findings have implications for our interpersonal relationships and our spirituality and, by extension, for how we engage self and others in transitional leadership and interim ministry. Increasingly, the transitions that need to be managed are the result of serious decline and existential threat to existing systems and methods, resulting in fear, high anxiety, loss of hope, and non-optimal decision-making. This experiential workshop transports participants through the research data, its implications, and how in developing and applying our own emotional intelligence competencies we can rebuild hope, develop resilience, and renew and strengthen self and others to fulfill the purpose for which we have been created and called.

I’ll be joining Private Directors Association® colleagues Tina Greenbaum, CEO, Mastery Under Pressure; Randall Beard, Independent Board Director/Advisor; and Rodolfo Paiz, CEO, Fidelius on Thursday, June 13 at 5 PM ET for a panel discussion on boardroom conflict. Each board member’s perspective is incomplete. So, when making business decisions, it’s useful to tap a range of perspectives. However, differences in perspective can lead to conflict. The more different the perspectives, the harder it is to foster effective collaboration. We’ll be exploring ways for private company boards to take advantage of differences. My personal favorite is to begin deliberations by clarifying the desired outcomes. Then, instead of asking, “What should we do?” you can ask, “What are our options? and “What are the implications of each?” This reduces the risk of polarization and makes effective collaborative problem solving more likely. #collaboration, #governance, #boardofdirectors

These are spot on. We encounter the first two often when helping leaders focus their communication to employees in times of change. Complexity doesn’t mean smarter or more interesting. It often just confuses employees further at a critical moment in the life of an organization.
