One question every top copywriter ask to improve copy And it’s “So What” Every sentence you write Every phrase you write Ask yourself “So What” If the answer isn’t clear then why should your reader care? Every sentence should make them want to read the next one. Keep them hooked. Add value or pique curiosity. If you can answer "So what?" with something interesting or important… your readers will stay engaged. As a writer, I notice alllll the language mistakes everywhere. The English-ish mistranslations. The weird grammar. The total-miss phrasing that says something the writer didn’t intend. 🤔 As a designer, I notice a LOT of gaps in usability and functionality. That self-order machine at the coffee place is little more complex than it needed to be? My mind is so there, chiming in with an idea for a more seamless experience. I definitely didn’t do this (as much) before I had professional skills in these areas. So it must be an expertise thing. You’re more inclined to notice that kind of stuff once you’ve trained your mind to notice them? So, what profession-related mistakes (design flaws?) do you notice day to day?

The Hashtag, this little-known guy in our tech toolkit... Commonly referred to as a hashtag, it has had a variety of names: 🔷 Present on telephone keypads, it serves several purposes - called "pound sign" 🔷 Widely used as a label to indicate a number - called "number sign" 🔷 In computing, it stands for several things, used even in coding - called "hash" 🔷 Used in music notation, specifying a note should be raised - called "sharp sign" 🔷 In general usage - often called the "pound sign" or "hash symbol" 🔷 In the telecommunications industry, it started being called "octothorpe" in the sixties 😲 🔷 On social media and many other contexts - called "hashtag" ✅ The idea was as simple as effective: To put a symbol in front of words or phrases to make them searchable. So, since 2007, we all use hashtags and the word hashtag itself is part of our everyday vocabulary. Not planning to hit publish? Don't write a single word. Do something else instead. When I work with new writers, many have wanted to write professionally for years. They have ideas they want to share, businesses they want to build, and stories they have already written...but never published. So they share their posts with me, and I edit them. Truthfully, the students are sometimes overwhelmed by the number of edits. But I'm not here to rubber-stamp their work. I'm here to help them refine their work to the very best of my abilities, and theirs. So we work together to make their stories as near-perfect as possible.
