Healthcare remains one of the most change-resistant industries, uniquely distinguished by its negative per-capita productivity growth and continued reliance on fax machines. This week, I had the privilege of joining leaders from CVS, Amazon, NVIDIA, and Oracle through the Frist Cressey Ventures team to discuss reimagining healthcare with patients at the center. It's encouraging to see major corporations taking a long-term, patient-centric approach to healthcare transformation, questioning fundamental assumptions about our current system. However, the challenges are real. Forward, despite raising hundreds of millions and bringing fresh "outside healthcare" perspectives to reimagine primary care, recently shut down due to unsustainable economics. They're not alone - 2024 has seen major retailers like Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, and Dollar General either exit or scale back their physical healthcare presence. In conversations with healthcare leaders, there's growing excitement about Generative AI's potential to drive change. Yet, the industry's complexity demands both optimism and humility. Transforming healthcare requires not just innovative technology, but a deep understanding of its unique challenges. But how can you unify data from multiple stakeholders?     For answers, look to Dr. Denise Hines, DHA, PMP, FHIMSS, executive director of the Georgia Health Information Network (GaHIN), the state’s nonprofit health information exchange.    Dr. Hines is that rare leader who connects the dots in healthcare. Her deep experience in health systems, physician offices, technology vendors, and state government has prepared her to transform healthcare in Georgia.    How?    She’s advancing healthcare connectivity by expanding the HIE’s focus beyond traditional provider data. Today, we celebrate one year of #DAXCopilot (ambient clinical intelligence) general availability. As a clinician who understands the value of a people-first approach to healthcare, I’m pleased to share feedback and highlights from healthcare organizations across the country. With the help of DAX Copilot, clinicians are simultaneously able to see more patients while getting more time back to spend with family at home. And while time savings per visit may be one of the most common metrics applied to demonstrate ROI for ambient clinical intelligence (#ACI), IMHO the most impactful benefit of ACI may extend well beyond time savings. Most (>50%) clinicians are feeling burned-out and many are leaving the practice. If we can help clinicians, who are literally drowning with administrative work, stay afloat and help them regain the joy of medicine, then we will have made a dramatic impact on not only the lives of these clinicians and their families, but on the patients they serve. When clinicians regain the time to have informal conversations with patients and not feel time-pressured to focus only on the problems at hand, then clinicians will have regained the opportunity to (1) better understand their patients and the challenges they face, (2) uncover "hidden and unaddressed issues" including SDOH and mental and behavioral health challenges, and (3) strengthen the trust between patients and clinicians that nowadays seems to be waning and in need of fortification.

## Dealing with Resistance to Generative AI in Your Organization One of my newsletter subscribers yesterday asked this question and I thought it was worth it's own post. As generative AI (GenAI) technology continues to advance, it's understandable that some members of your team may be skeptical or resistant to adopting it. This is normal and expected! With the right approach, you can help your colleagues understand the value of GenAI and get them onboard. Here are a few things to keep in mind - > First, education is key. Provide training opportunities like workshops, webinars, and learning resources to help employees understand what GenAI is and how it can benefit the organization. Seeing real-life examples and success stories can also help demonstrate the tangible value of GenAI. Collaborate with your technology and GSI (Global System Integrator) partners for ideas/thoughts. These partners have existing programs, demos, training material, etc. that they can lend to help accelerate a learning plan for your organization. > Second, open, honest and transparent communication is crucial. Foster an environment where people feel comfortable voicing their concerns and asking questions. Address any misconceptions head-on and keep everyone updated on your GenAI initiatives. For example - one of my customers acknowledged early on that they did not have GenAI ready builders, so they worked with a GSI to secure a pod (a small 2-pizza team in Amazon lingo) that works to deliver priorities identified during Pi planning to deliver a few GenAI use cases. > Third, Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a solid business case for GenAI adoption. Quantify the potential impact on efficiency, growth, and competitiveness. Having a well-researched plan can help convince skeptics of the strategic value. If needed, consider engaging external consultants or experts to provide guidance and support in developing your GenAI strategy. Their experience can be invaluable in overcoming hurdles and ensuring a smooth implementation. This also allows for a top-down support and helps accelerate adoption of the change.
