How will healthcare delivery models evolve and use automation to improve existing workflows?
Healthcare delivery involves a series of complex, interconnected clinical, administrative, and population-level workflows that various people across the care continuum perform within and between work environments in the #healthecosystem. Digitised paper-based workflows built on traditional processes have led to an ecosystem that contributes to burnout and impedes the full use of #healthtechnology.
It is important to ensure that automation in healthcare is driven by a commitment to deliver high-quality, #equitablecare, and thoughtfully designed systems that do not add to the burden of #careteams and clinicians. A question to consider for all interventions is whether their introduction can add value, increase safety, and/or improve efficiency. This includes ensuring automation will serve all patient populations and not create biases or advantages for a particular population. In addition, seeking to introduce #automation to a healthcare workflow often provides opportunities to redesign the workflow to support a re-envisioned workflow with automation.
Successfully adding automation and #datadriven #technologies in #healthcaresettings requires a mind shift across the entire ecosystem. This shift may require a new workforce, new roles, and new training as healthcare implements more automation and different automation approaches. It will also require automation of tasks focused on ensuring safety, improving patient-provider relationships, providing more time for treatment, and yielding better and faster insights about health and #healthcare.
