Internal communication professionals say new hybrid work policies and practices have weakened company culture. In a new study with IABC, all of us at USC Annenberg Center for Public Relations found while overall morale has improved since work from home policies have been implemented, 2/3 of communication professionals cite maintaining corporate culture as their most significant challenge. Fred Cook cites Fairfax Cone, founder of FCB Global, and said, "Our inventory goes down the elevator every night. But it is dubious to claim tariffs can be imposed with no economic trade‐​offs. American history provides an abundance of examples of politicians using tariffs to protect domestic industry. Taken together, the examples show that tariffs do not generate higher levels of employment or production for the economy overall; they do not ensure the long‐​term health of the industries being protected or fundamentally alter the trade balance; and they serve not the strategic interests of the nation but the parochial interests of politicians who get to enrich preferred companies and workers by imposing diffuse and mostly hidden costs on the rest of the US economy.

Disinformation isn't about a lack of information but an overwhelming flood of it – talk about drowning in data! A new study reveals that "information overload," not the lack of it, is the real culprit behind the spread of disinformation and the erosion of democracy. "Misinformed Choice has emerged as one of the biggest threats to stability of democratic practices because it gives the citizens the illusions of having acquired adequate and accurate information by verifying it at the layer of the stack where it has the effect, rather than at the layer of the stack where the manipulation happens." Good read from Andy Kessler on the importance of supporting basic research for innovation: "It’s easy to fall off or be pushed off the leading edge. Faster productivity doesn’t just happen. Government shouldn’t pick winners and losers. Instead, productivity takes tireless scientists and engineers to experiment constantly with tiny improvements until the rest of us see what feels like huge gains in what we can do... Basic research of all types should be encouraged. Let many ideas flourish as industrial policy doesn’t work. Instead, success is like throwing spaghetti against the wall, seeing what sticks. In technology, this often takes place inside big companies. In pharma, it’s often government grants that drive basic research. Don’t DOGE it. I first came across Petra Molnar's work at Concordia University's Data Justice Hub workshops in 2023. In her new book, The Walls Have Eyes, she consolidates six years of research about migration management technologies, and the private, state and NGO actors that have vested interests in embedding AI / automation into them. Interesting how chat preservation continues to come up in the context of government investigations. This time #TikTok is in the crosshairs, with 22 state attorneys general asking a Tennessee court to order the company to preserve and produce relevant evidence in a multi-state investigation into harm to youth mental health. The states say TikTok destroyed internal messages and chat logs, as well as communications records from the enterprise collaboration platform Lark (developed by TiktTok parent ByteDance). 💡 Lark is the "primary method by which TikTok employees communicate internally about substantive business topics related to the platform and its features, including matters related to the states' consumer protection investigation," the AGs' filing says. 🚩 The Lark chats are a "critical window into the candid thought processes, intentions, and observations of those responsible for designing, managing, and operating the features on TikTok's platform, which cause the mental health harm to our children and teens that are the focus of this investigation." 💡 The AGs believe that evidence related to the Lark chats were "purposely lost" and that "substantive communications were made on Lark that the States will never see, to the detriment of their investigations and any further necessary action." I never thought I would write a book. But things change. People change. I am thankful to Sara Jean Gamble and Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) of US Army program to engage me and my group with summer intern students over the years at New York University. More than 50 students participated from home states of NY, NJ, CT, FL, CA with tremendous passion and enthusiasm about quantum information science. This book has the spirit of our journey.
