Recent industry research shared by Eleanor Hawkins at Axios shows that 66% of Fortune 500 Chief Communications Officers are women, a demographic variance not yet seen in other C-suite roles. Diverse perspectives are essential to effectively lead, listen to and engage the many different groups and audiences that can dictate a company’s success and I look forward to similar progress in inclusion across other leadership roles and industries. https://lnkd.in/e7c-5fS7

Women are dominating in Fortune 500 chief communication roles, new research shows - yet, the disparity in other C-suite roles "underscores the need for continued advocacy and opportunity, ensuring diverse leadership that reflects the richness of talent and perspective women bring to the table." Curious to hear your thoughts - why do you think we see more women in CCO positions than in any other C-suite positions? #Leadership #Inclusion #GenderDiversity

Is communications the path to the C-Suite for women? A recent report has found that women hold the majority of Chief Communications Roles at Fortune 500 companies. Key takeaways included: 🗣️66% of CCOs are women, compared to 10.4% of CEOs and 18.5% of CFOs 🚑 Women are most likely to hold top comms roles in the healthcare sector and least likely in energy Good news right? Unfortunately, the report also highlights the gender gap is very much in place, with women earning 16% less than their male counterparts and reporting lower job satisfaction. Whilst the rise of the female CCO is encouraging, we’d love to hear your thoughts on what can be done to level the playing field and keep more women in leadership? Let us know in the comments. Hat tip to Alex Doorey for sharing. https://lnkd.in/gaG4Bx3f #womeninpr #leadership #equality

While there is a "Yes but.." to this article, it points out that most chief of communication officer positions are held by women. 👏 🎉 I appreciate Shelley Zalis', founder and CEO of The Female Quotient, insight on why women excel as #CCOs: "It's also due to their ability to multitask, manage diverse stakeholders and navigate complexities with compassion." This article sparks discussions on: - Why is communication sometimes considered an "administrative" function despite its fundamental importance? - What common traits and skills are shared among C-suite positions regardless of gender? #WomenInLeadership #Communications

I'm pleased to see that communications allows women to reach influential positions. However, it's still disappointing to see that creative roles, such as Chief Communications Officer, predominantly represent women while technical roles remain male-dominated. It's 2024, and while the trend is slowly changing, we need to ensure that women are not pigeonholed into "creative" positions alone. We should aim for greater gender balance across all roles, including technical and executive positions. Progress is happening, but there's still a long way to go to truly level the playing field. Here's to hoping for more women in diverse roles of power in the near future ✊ #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership #DiversityInTech

TEN Women bookclub at Maison ELLE Amsterdam I had the pleasure of co-hosting together with Awura Abena Simpe. It was an inspiring experience. With about 50 women in total, we delved into Erin Meyer's 'The Culture Map', exploring cross-cultural communication with a culturally ultra diverse audience. The cultural insights shared during our discussions were eye-opening, reminding us all of the often-overlooked 'default settings' in our communication styles. It's a common pitfall to attribute cultural behaviours to personality traits, but our session highlighted the crucial distinction between the two. Some examples of insights from the session: - High vs. Low Context Communication: We observed how some cultures thrive on implicit cues, while others value directness in conversation. - Task vs. Relationship Orientation: Different approaches to building trust and conducting business emerged, showcasing the importance of relationship dynamics. - Linear vs. Flexible Time: Varying perceptions of time management sparked engaging conversations about how these differences influence collaboration. These insights are not only important for effective leadership in diverse workplaces; they are also essential for inclusive social design. By understanding cultural nuances and being culturally sensitive during qualitative research and co-creation, we can create solutions that truly resonate with diverse communities. Awareness of the cultural element in behaviour is not merely beneficial—it’s necessary. Thank you to everyone who participated and shared their perspectives. #InclusiveDesign #CulturalIntelligence
