Today I am celebrating 10 years at White Lodging, and I thought I would share my thoughts of 10 reasons I am thankful for the past 10 years.    1. White Lodging accepts me for me & allow me to be my authentic self.  2. I am seen for who I am & what I bring; they recognize my value & my worth. 3.  I am surrounded by amazing people that help me to be the best version of me every day. They push me & challenge me in a way that is wonderful! 4.  Gallup calls it a Q10, a best friend work. I have Q10’s in every market. When I think of them, I smile. White Lodging brought us together! 5. They invested in my development, in ME. More than anyone has ever done. 6. I have the most incredible team I work with. People I not only enjoy working with & respect, but I genuinely like & care for & in turn they care for me. 7. Did you know I sought out WL? I did. I was hoping they would swipe right too, & they did. Because of their involvement in the community & the good they did I WANTED to be a part of that. I had to.  8. I am inspired to do good be good & pay it forward every single day. 9. Culture - how do you define the culture of a company? It is not easy, is it? I can tell you this…I am home. WL is my home away from home.  10. The people, hands down. Every interaction I have, every leadership class I lead, I am in awe. I am inspired, they amaze me. They make me want to be better; & not for me. For them. Every person I have had the privilege of crossing paths with is an absolute gift. I thought today was a great day to share this.   Do what you love and love what you do. I get to do that. Every day. Today was the perfect day to pause, reflect & share that. As CCL Hospitality Group , Unidine and Compass Group USA continues to celebrate and spotlight our team members for #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth ~ we are spotlighting Daniel Cartagena our Director of Hospitality at our Premier location Moorings Park Communities in Naples Florida. Dan is a proud Puerto Rican. when I asked him about traditions that are important to him, this is what he shared. "My favorite time of year is almost here—Christmas! It’s a great season filled with family, laughter, and our beloved traditions. One of the highlights for us is participating in a “parranda,” a Puerto Rican celebration that brings everyone together. Imagine this: groups of friends and family gathered to spread joy and music, reminiscent of Christmas caroling, but with a unique twist. Parrandas are vibrant social events featuring lively traditional Puerto Rican music, delicious food, and festive drinks such as coquito. We often venture out in the evening, singing and dancing through the streets, sometimes until the early hours of the morning. It’s a celebration that makes you feel alive! But the fun doesn’t end on Christmas Day. We keep the festivities going all the way to Three Kings Day on January 6th. On this special night, children place a shoebox filled with grass and water under their beds for the camels of the Three Wise Men. Just like on Christmas, the excitement builds as the Kings leave behind surprises and gifts, adding an extra sprinkle of magic to the holiday season. For me, Christmas is more than just a day; it’s a joyful celebration that stretches across weeks, filled with music, love, and cherished memories with family and friends." Dan is a go to, mentor, teacher, Gantt chart extraordinaire and cheer leaders for so many. People are his passion. I asked him how we can assure our diverse team members are represented and celebrated. he shared "As we get to know our partners, it is important that we create opportunities for partners to share their cultural backgrounds and experiences. We could also highlight the different nationalities, ethnicities, and cultures within the group and avoid lumping everyone into a single category; instead, celebrate the unique traditions and histories each partner brings to our teams. We have a huge advantage working in the food-service industry that we can get to know one another through our traditional foods. There is so much joy around being able to share your families' recipes with others. Some HR may not like this post but that’s what LinkedIn is for structure criticism. If one in five candidates don't turn up for an interview, it could indeed indicate a human resources challenge. It might suggest that there's a disconnect between the expectations set during the recruitment process and the actual experience candidates encounter. This could be due to various factors, such as inadequate training programs, a lack of emphasis on valuing candidates, or shortcomings in the recruitment process itself. It's essential to assess and address these issues to ensure a positive and effective hiring process. Young people can now look at Indeed before they turn up for an interview to see what the work culture is like.!. How many young people reading this post can say they've seen their HR on the floor, looking at what they go through in the working environment, and are there on the weekend? We say 1 in 5 never turn up for an interview, but how many HR departments never reply to candidates who do show up for interviews? Before I started my own training company, I was staggered by how often the HR people interviewing me did not understand the field I was working in especially in the questions in the cruise line industry. I was once doing training in a hotel in the north of England and was asked to attend an interview with the HR manager. I was staggered and surprised to find that he was reading from a script during the interview. I honestly believe that all interviews should be conducted by the heads of the departments—the executive chef, the F&B manager, the restaurant manager, the housekeeper. These individuals understand the industry intimately. I also believe budget constraints can pose a significant challenge for HR departments, especially when it comes to training and development initiatives. However, there are often creative solutions that can be explored, such as leveraging online resources, collaborating with external training providers, or implementing peer-to-peer learning initiatives. It's essential for HR to prioritize continuous learning and skill development within their organization, even in the face of budget limitations. negative reviews and feedback from current or former staff can significantly impact a hotel's reputation and its ability to attract new talent. Potential candidates may be deterred from applying or attending interviews if they perceive the work environment to be unfavorable. It's essential for HR departments and management to address any underlying issues and strive to create a positive and supportive workplace culture. Three weeks ago, I was asked to go on a call by an HR manager. It was one of the best interviews I’ve had regarding training. I’m not criticizing HR—I'm just sharing my opinion based on my experiences. I’m sure there are many HR managers who work very hard and strive to do their best for their company.
