“I am so sorry to see Jennifer leave us. Working with her for several years in a HR Director role she brought a great balance to our HR operations . Focus on the business needs with a strong understanding and caring for our all of our employees with at the same time a sense of urgency. I will miss her guidance and knowledge . ”

A new team member is struggling with workload during onboarding. Feeling overwhelmed?
As leaders we need to have a thoughtful and empathetic approach. 1. Schedule a 1:1 meeting to understand their concerns. Create a safe space where they can share their feelings without judgment. Active listening is crucial to ensure they feel heard and valued. 2. Encourage the team member to communicate openly about their workload and any ongoing challenges. 3. Set short-term wins to help build their confidence by setting achievable short-term goals. Celebrating these small successes can boost morale and reinforce a sense of progress. Taking these steps helps create an environment where new team members feel supported, valued, and equipped to succeed, ultimately contributing to their long-term retention and satisfaction.

You’ve just received negative feedback on your leadership skills. What’s the first step to improving?
I agree. When receiving negative feedback on your leadership skills, it's important to approach it with openness and a willingness to improve. We often forget that it may also be difficult for a leader to frame the feedback in a way that the receiver will be receptive to listening. Change leads to growth, no matter how uncomfortable it may feel like at the one moment.
