What do you do if your boss is out of touch with your product marketing projects and progress?
I've always thought of my bosses as partners, not overlords. It is as much your responsibility to build that partnership as it theirs. You can't over estimate the importance of consistent, clear, and meaningful communication. The effort you put into that skill will pay off exponentially. Marketing has at least 15+ core disciplines, product marketing is just one of them. No one person is an expert in each of them equally. Make it your first priority to bring your boss along, build trust, and ensure that you are aligned on goals. I have never known any leader who did not want success for the company, their teams, and themselves. That only happens when everyone is clear on what needs to be done to achieve that!

How can you use market research to inform product globalization?
Primary market research is one of the most important tools to inform the actions you should take within a market. Geographies are different and the importance of certain features may resonate in one market and not in another. The only way to know where to play is to research it. These insights will inform the viability of your offer across countries, industries, and personas. Does your product/offer appeal to CMOs in Mexico; but not in Brazil. And if not, why not. Do you need a different product or a different message? With the right research and testing you can get these answers and decipher the code to help you expand across borders and meet the unique needs of the markets you wish to serve.

You’re a product marketing professional. How do you keep your team on track?
As a CMO, I find product marketing to be one o the most important disciplines in a marketer's tool kit. Helping this team understand their importance in the broader marketing ecosystem is critical. Setting clear goals and a roadmap with requisite timelines will ensure that the team ready to lead. PM teams help the entire organization understand product/market fit. They also help with competitive positioning, capability comparisons, stack rankings within a feature set, and provide comprehensive value propositions, to name a few of their roles and responsibilities. PM teams also lead product/offering launches and market activations by ensuring employees are ready to deliver on the promises they have positioned, firing everyone up to win!
