I've seen clients waste millions on overcomplicated software before partnering with MEV. It can be hard to recognize wasted spending when you're in the middle of a process, too. Got an email "GCP's Apache Kafka service is now live" at noon. After dinner, spent half an hour confirming it works well with Timeplus. I don't think you can make the bootstrap server publicly accessible. Has to setup a bastion host or run your app within the same project/VPC. Setting up the SASL username/pwd was not easy. Follow the guide carefully https://lnkd.in/gcKEVh3g and you may need to disable the iam.disableServiceAccountKeyCreation Anyway, if your workload are in GCP already, having such Kafka service in GCP is nice way to burn your cloud credits. Yet another Kafka vendor, great.

One of the more common questions I get: "what if you don't have a connector I need?" Our whole job is integration development, which means we've built up a ton of infrastructure to ship integrations fast. One time, a customer needed a connector urgently, and we gave it to them in 48 hours. Literally from ask to production was 2d. To allay concerns though, we sometimes give customers an SLA in their contract -- "no matter what else we have going on, we'll ship x number of connectors you need per x months" That being said, we've also built in generic forms of ingress -- S3, webhook, etc. But using Tarsal's "native" connectors is best, because they handle normalization, graceful failures, rate limits, etc.

Few agencies without a technical lead are able to get by (and none thrive). Relying on contractors can be a double-edged sword: they bring specialized skills but often lack a cohesive vision that aligns technology with your customer’s long-term goals. This disconnect results in software bloat, where unnecessary features and technical debt pile up. The pain is real: without a consistent, forward-thinking approach, your business is at risk of compounding technical debt that will stifle innovation. Don’t let short-term fixes lead to long-term problems. It’s time to rethink how you approach technology, ensuring it supports—not stifles—your growth.

This page--our newly designed Feature Release page--is my favorite page on our website. Why? It is our work product. It shows what it means to tranlsate customer and team feedback into incremental (and sometimes dramatic) progress that delights our customer. Stuff that seems small, but really adds up. Let’s talk about that switch to a modern web solution… 😉 On a serious note, this really sucks for small business owners who are tied into a WP set up using Engine. Saw the news today that PivotalTracker is shutting down. Although I haven't used the product in years, PivotalTracker was, to me, the perfect example of how opinionated software can supercharge a development team. All software embodies a process. The best tools are ones that not only record information but drive your process and your team forward. If you tried to use PivotalTracker but didn't follow their process, you'd find the tool would not work well - and so you'd be forced to adopt their process (which was a good process). Other tools that are more general, like Jira, let you do whatever you want, which often results in teams with poorly defined or loose processes, which results in teams that don't operate effectively. RIP PivotalTracker. Big day for the Rails Foundation: 1Password is the first new Core member to join the board since we launched. Looking forward to working with Jason Meller on the board. You might be thinking: 1Password? Rails? YES. 1Password recently acquired Kolide, a Rails app, and integrated it into the core of its XAM. With today’s world of remote work (and the apps we rely on at work) combined with the ever-increasing threat of data breaches and bad actors, this Rails app now handles “thousands of web requests per second, authorizes millions of authentication attempts, processes billions of asynchronous jobs each month, and consistently delivers four nines of annual uptime for customers”. Not bad for a Rails app, ey?

My clients don’t care that I use AWS, Laravel, or Vue. They don’t care about the intricacies of APIs, cloud integrations, or the frameworks I love working with. And I get it. 📆 We've recently added support for secondary calendars in Ashby scheduling. There are a number of use cases where folks on your team may have secondary calendars that need to be considered when scheduling - you can now bring these into Ashby. One example is shown in the demo below: many Engineers import their Pagerduty rotation schedule into a separate calendar. If you want to avoid scheduling Engineers who are on-call you can now make that data available directly in Ashby (scheduling keywords and all other scheduling functionality works as expected across secondary calendars as well).
