The New York ecosystem for dual-use technology is small but strong and growing rapidly. Thanks to companies like Decisive Point and @a16z who continue to support the community with networking events for founders, investors, and community members. More and more founders are recognizing the value in partnering with the DOD as a strong way to support the country's national security interests while hopefully decreasing the tax burden on citizens regarding government spend as commercially available technology becomes more available and affordable for government organizations. Not only this, but the DOD serves as a great test bed and sandbox for emerging technologies and talent. #dualuse #emergingtech #defensetech #Kilsar

Have I mentioned that this computer scientist, developer, and straight-up genius is the brains behind yuda ? An MJC counselor once told Daisy she’d never make it in tech because of her math scores. But if you know us #Latinas, you know we don’t back down—we say, “Oh really? Watch me.” Not only did Daisy prove them wrong, but she’s also empowering so many women in the Central Valley and beyond to believe they belong in tech. Thanks to her leadership, our local Google Developers Group and Women Techmakers ambassadors have launched chapters in #Stockton led by Laiylaly Mandujano, #Turlock, Kelley Coelho, PMP® and #Merced Norma C. Cardona, MPA + Lourdes Ovando—making waves that others said were impossible. Daisy is always humble, but let’s be real: she deserves the credit. When I was fired from my alma mater, California State University, Stanislaus, for advocating for Latinas, Daisy stood by me. We were planning a tech event for International Women's Day, and despite the department committing $20k to continue without me, Daisy and Women Techmakers Modesto (Google Developer Group Modesto Partners) voted against moving forward without my voice at the table. That level of integrity and selflessness speaks volumes. This is why I am—and always will be—your ride or die co-founder, Daisy Mayorga-Fuentes. You believed in me when others didn’t, and together, we’re building the future of tech for Latinas and beyond. #LatinasInTech #WomenInTech #DigitalEquity #GoogleDevelopers #WomenTechmakers #CentralValleyTech #RepresentationMatters #Leadership #Integrity

Coming soon to Seattle: a co-working space for tacking climate change The climate tech sector is blossoming in the Pacific Northwest, attracting new innovators eager to tackle what some see as an existential crisis. But the scope of the problem can be overwhelming — especially if going it alone. A venture called 9Zero plans to open a co-working space in Seattle where people can create community, collaborate and brainstorm climate solutions. — Geekwire #seattle #climate #climateaction #coworking #9zero

Do you get paid in stables? do you pay folks in stables? most times they want USDT, not USDC, and on Tron. If this sounds familiar to you, you might want to check out Intersend. Xiao accepts only USDT on Tron, while Aditi loves using USDC on Solana. It's convenient for sending and receiving stables across most major L1s without worrying about gas fees. Plus, it automatically converts from USDT to USDC and vice versa, and offers several offramp options. Even if you’re like Adam and transact only in Bitcoin, Intersend accommodates that too. app.intersend.io

Vishal Sachdev highlights the strategic integration of open source and proprietary tech in architecting tech stacks, developer ecosystems and resulting business models. The world class companies effectively balance value commoditization in open source and value capture in proprietary tech. This is the strategic challenge for companies operating in #blockchain and #AI. I believe those who operate at the intersection of blockchain *and* AI stand to win this strategic battle...

Really interesting podcast that brings up one of the characters that seems to not go away in #bayarea #tech culture, i.e #ayn #rand . Conceptually if you fled authoritarian regimes, some of her ideas are good, but in practice the idea that being purely selfish is good, is what is deeply wrong with tech. The real world is complex and simple philosophies like “selfish good” are appealing to simple people or exploitive people looking to exploit.

WIESNER ON HUMANS VS AI: MIT Media Lab co-founder and science advisor to JFK, Jerome B. Wiesner was a unique figure in the history of MIT at the crossroads of science, engineering, and the arts with a lifelong pursuit of world peace. There's a terrific talk he gave at the founding of the MIT "E15" building designed by I.M. Pei — often nicknamed "the bathroom building" — that's worth a watch, especially during these extraordinary times https://lnkd.in/g2zEJRrk and a piece of the talk he gave is below. Information on the talk I'm giving with Jerome B. Wiesner Professor Hiroshi Ishii is here https://lnkd.in/gJpKkeY8 on November 8th (Fri) from 11 am EST, and you can register online for free here https://lnkd.in/gADUyCs7 --- Jerome B. Wiesner at the founding moment of the MIT Media Lab's E15 building https://lnkd.in/g2zEJRrk > ... Now some people will be offended by what I'm going to say, but I think man-made systems use better components. Electrical signals travel a million times faster than signals on nerve fibers. And semiconductor devices also act billions of times faster than neurons, which are the biological information processing elements. Also, manmade elements appear to be more reliable. But nature has a very large edge, maybe a decisive edge. In design complexity involving a number of individual elements, it can use it in a system effectively. And these are advantages man may never match. Nature may always retain this edge, who knows? > But for the moment, it really doesn't matter. The manmade systems that we are involved with enhance human creative capacities, that's what they can do, but so far they cannot displace them. Cognitive and computer scientists are having an exciting time trying to understand and imitate human reasoning with computing systems. And though they can do a few things that would be regarded as thinking if done by a human, they differ violently among themselves on whether or not machines with human thinking and creative abilities are possible. Even the so-called artificial intelligence field, which prompted Walter Rosenblith to say he preferred natural stupidity, his greatest achievement in this field is capturing knowledge and skills of humans -- of human experts. > For now, it’s clear that thinking machines and true creativity don’t exist. We should focus on how tech can expand human creative capacity.

San Francisco's political landscape is taking an innovative turn as mayor-elect Dan Lurie appoints OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to his transition team. This strategic move signals a fresh approach to bridging the gap between city government and the tech sector at a crucial time for San Francisco. What makes this particularly noteworthy is how it represents a shift in how cities might leverage tech leadership to address urban challenges - from public safety to economic revitalization. The inclusion of both Altman and former Twitter CFO Ned Segal suggests a deliberate strategy to reconnect with the tech community while maintaining the city's position as a global innovation hub. Key developments to watch: ▶️ How this tech-government partnership influences public safety initiatives ▶️ Impact on downtown revitalization efforts ▶️ Response from other tech leaders and companies ▶️ Potential new policies to attract and retain tech talent ▶️ Balance between innovation and traditional urban governance https://lnkd.in/gMJ3yvk9

I realize I don't know the details, but when I see scenarios like this, I can't help but think: "What a bunch of idiots." There is always a path to redemption. So many VC backed startups, and seemingly often in the energy / EV support realm, have no backup plan (ironic right), no alternative scenario (again ironic) and just throw up their arms, let the last reserves drain, and give up. If this is you, and whether your funding dried up, missed a milestone of some kind, whatever it may be, you owe it to your team, your employees, your stakeholders, to think out of the box and explore every scenario, including outside of your comfort zone. Ever wondered where the perfect balance between tranquility and innovation lies? For me, it’s Seattle. Unlike the Bay, Seattle has a more serene environment that’s perfect for focusing on building products and businesses. The city’s vibe encourages deep work and creative thinking, free from the overwhelming hustle. But let’s be honest, Seattle’s founder and investor communities aren’t as vibrant as those in SF. Yet, this city holds a special place in my heart – a blend of my love for startups and the charm of Seattle. I believe in Seattle’s potential and I’m on a mission to help ignite its startup community. From connecting with fellow founders to engaging investors, let’s come together to build something extraordinary here. Seattle has all the ingredients to be a startup hub – talent, innovation, and a supportive ecosystem. What it needs is a spark. Let’s be that spark.

Great story from Fred Grier, Business San Diego, covering the progress of Xiaodi Hou at Bot Auto, and former Founder of TuSimple. Xiaodi Hou, we look forward to your impact on building resilient supply chains in Texas and the nation. Great quote: “We came to Texas because we feel that we need the technology team to be very close to the day-to-day operation of the trucks, . . . it was clear that Texas is the leader in autonomous trucking and is also home to some of the most central freight routes in the U.S., including the I-45 corridor." Texas is leading with autonomous systems deployments - shuttles, cars, trucks, vans, rovers, drones, lawnmowers, construction, . . . . This is f*cking hilarious: TuSimple's pivot from self-driving trucks to AI animation and gaming! 🤖🎮 Right now, everyone’s betting on humanoid and general-purpose robotics startups. But after 5 years in self-driving tech and building Kopernikus Auto, here’s the reality: most humanoid robotics companies will be dead. In the self-driving world, we’ve only seen a few real winners: Tesla, Waymo, and Comma.ai. Why? - Humanoid robotics isn’t a hardware problem; it’s a software problem. - You either have infinite data, cash, talent, or a clear use case—or you won’t make it, no matter how much you raise. From over 100 companies, almost all in self-driving tech are dead or miles away from profitability. ✨ Don’t get distracted by the appeal of humanoids. Focus on real problems you can actually solve. What are you focusing on? 👇

Chasing the perfect Software QA plan is WRECKING your speed—and your product. Unfolding (thanks, Rob Snyder, for introducing me to the concept!) is the idea that things gradually take shape over time, and you make adjustments along the way. Instead of trying to plan every detail upfront, unfolding allows room for flexibility, learning, and growth as you progress. The key is to keep moving forward, knowing that your path will become clearer as you take steps and respond to new information or challenges. In QA, that means starting testing with WHAT you have, testing early, and refining your strategy as new information surfaces. Start testing NOW, even if your strategy isn’t flawless. Test and adjust/improve your strategy as you learn. That’s how you catch critical issues faster and keep momentum. Perfect QA plans don’t exist. Unfold your testing strategy in real time .... or fall behind.
