You're facing skeptical participants in UX research. How can you build trust effectively?
Too many people in the room is a cardinal sin of UX research. Nobody likes to come in and feel like they're under the microscope, particularly when they're out-numbered. Keep the number of participants in the session as small as possible. For in-person ethnographic research, I aim for three - the user, the interviewer, and a note taker. This helps users feel more at ease, and also decreases the chances of users adjusting their feedback in an attempt to appease other group members.

You're leading a team in UX Research. How can you nurture the growth of your junior members?
Watch one. Do one. Teach One. Give them an opportunity to observe the first swing through any process as a learning experience only. Second time around they're leading the charge with a mentor available in support. Third time around they take on the role of teacher, either to a new learner or back to their mentor. The repetition helps engrain skills, while the mentor support gives room to grow in a supportive environment.

How can your portfolio showcase your collaboration and communication skills?
Remember that design is a collaboration-based discipline. We work with stakeholders, business partners, users, product, marketing, developers, and others to take a product from start to finish. Don't shrink for sharing the contributions of others to the final product - highlight them, and celebrate how you were able to bring them into the design process.

Hall of Fame Performance
Trust Company of America
This award given to four employees per quarter to recognize outstanding performances within the company.
My award was specifically to recognize the work I did leading a team in researching, designing, and implementing the company's new internal communications website. By making the site visually engaging setting up systems to ensure continued relevant and important content, I was able to ensure interest was kept high and internal communications flowed easily throughout the company. -
