After many years in product I finally decided to take my first, and probably last, "PM course": Shreyas Doshi's Product Sense course: https://lnkd.in/g6Gm9YzU Why my last? I don't think I'll ever need to take another course after this. He asked our honest take, so here's mine: The premise of a PM course always felt ironic to me because doing product in theory is never *remotely close* to doing product in practice. Well, this is finally the course that is built for, and built by, product in practice. Name a product concept that you've banged your head against the wall trying to put into practice (I'll name a few: Product Sense, Product Strategy, Product Vision). You've already read 5 books, 10 medium articles, and listened to 12 podcasts, and still feel like doing it yourself is like grabbing water. Every one of those concepts (and more) has finally been decomposed, distilled, and packaged into something that can compare to working directly with a world-class product leader yourself. Do yourself a favor and take this course, there is nothing remotely close to it that I'm aware of in existence. Also: you will laugh - guarantee you'll experience at least 1 moment of catharsis as Shreyas Doshi skewers some aspect of the tech industry and our experience as product people within it.

maybe one of the few posts that I ever will do, but the situation did demand it! Just completed the "Improve your product sense" course by Shreyas Doshi as part of the November 2024 cohort. Doubt if I have ever taken such a unique course steeped in learnings extracted from years of Shreyas' product experience. And these are not learnings in the usual sense / frameworks that are dime a dozen (which can be misinterpreted based on the reader's context). Instead, it is a well thought & laid out interaction with Shreyas himself over 8+ days through live interaction, intense lecture, pre-reads, peer discussions & AMAs. I recently wrapped up Shreyas Doshi's Improving Your Product Sense course on Maven, and I'm still processing the wealth of insights I gained. It's easily been the most impactful learning experience of my career. Shreyas's approach is refreshingly pragmatic, informed by his deep well of experience. He sidesteps "product theater," frameworks, and famous soundbites that claim to be the singular path to success. Instead, the course equips you with the skills, perspective, and mindset to navigate the complex world of product. Decomposing "product sense" was a key reason I signed up for this class. It's a term I've referenced often over the years, but struggled to articulate clearly. Shreyas illuminated its components across all domains of product, and I'm convinced that truly grasping product sense can lead to remarkable outcomes. It requires a strong sense of agency and comfort with ambiguity, but the payoff is substantial. I've already begun applying the course learnings to my work and team's efforts, and it's brought immediate clarity to some of our biggest opportunities. If you're looking to level up your product game, I highly recommend investing in this course. It's a transformative experience that will fundamentally enhance your approach to product.

Wrapped up Shreyas Doshi's 'Improving Your Product Sense' course, and it was a genuinely enriching experience. The course went far beyond just tools or frameworks—it introduced a fresh perspective that changed the way I think and analyze situations. Every session was intense and engaging, creating new mental models for developing right products. It's unlike any other product courses available. I recently took Shreyas Doshi's product sense course where we learned the secret to building winning products: There are no secrets Most of us are doing it wrong :D But you can get much, much better at it than you realized If you learn to think correctly The course was dense, intense, and I learned more in 30 hours than in many years of doing product. Fundamentally it taught me what it means to treat making correct product decisions as an actual skill. But you have to jump in the pool and swim - there's no framework that can do it for you. I recently completed Shreyas Doshi's Improving Your Product Sense Course on Maven, and recommend it to any PM who is trying to improve the quality of their product thinking. Here are a few things about the course that stood out to me: 1. Focus on building the right mindset: Product sense is a skill you can develop, not an innate skill you're born with. Product sense is a new way of looking at the world. 2. Skills and practice, not frameworks: It's clear that Shreyas understands the common pitfalls PMs face when applying a random framework to their specific business needs. You're not going to leave the class suddenly being world class at product sense - instead, you'll leave with the foundations of a learning journey you can embark on to build your product sense over time. The underlying skillset is far more valuable than memorizing a set of frameworks. 3. Course design: The course is intense. It's a significant time commitment over 8 days for a group of students who are already extremely busy in their day jobs. What you get in return is a highly motivated and engaged community taking the class alongside you, as well as the repetition needed to internalize the core concepts. IMO, this was the highest leverage investment I've made in improving my product sense in my career thus far. Link to the course can be found here!

Last week I attended Shreyas Doshi's Improving your Product Sense course. The course has a single goal: help you make products successful. This requires a set of skills that are sometime lost in modern corporations where time is spent in juggling priorities, managing dependencies, satisfying internal stakeholders and playing success theater. I recently had the incredible opportunity to shadow our CEO, Naveen Tewari, for a day alongside four other colleagues.  As someone who’s primarily focused on product management, I was excited to step into the world of leadership at the highest level—to see how big decisions are made, how priorities are juggled, and how life is balanced when every moment counts.    The day gave me all that and so much more! It was an action-packed day with new learnings in every interaction. But here are my top takeaways from the day:   1. Balancing Life - I witnessed how someone at a global CEO level maintains mental and physical balance amidst countless priorities. This balance is the foundation of how you operate every day and takes a large amount of discipline.  2. Making Tough Decisions - I learned that even when faced with the fear of the unknown, it’s possible to make difficult decisions and manage their consequences effectively.  3. Zooming In and Out - I observed how to strategically shift focus throughout the day, guiding various teams with just the right level of involvement.  4. Being Trustworthy - Above all, I saw the importance of being a good person—someone people can trust and rely on, at the end of the day.    My #ShadowNT experience reiterated that the journey to such a role, and living it daily, is anything but easy. But it has left me inspired, hopeful, and with a lot to reflect on as I work to build a life that makes a difference in the world. Most product interview frameworks focus primarily on one stakeholder: the users. However, in reality, you must balance three stakeholders: users, hippos (highly paid and opinionated stakeholders), and your internal teams. It's all about trade-offs. While asking clarifying questions about the user is important, it’s equally critical to inquire about the tech infrastructure, budget (capex), and the founder's long-term vision. For example, if you're asked to design a product from scratch, key questions include: - What is the budget? - What is the founder trying to achieve long-term? - What tech infrastructure do we have? Let’s say the interviewer tells you the founder wants explosive user growth with minimal investment and limited tech infrastructure. In this case, you know that this combination isn’t realistic. The trade-off you might make is focusing on monetization-led user growth: identifying the most monetizable user segment that requires the least investment and focusing on aggressive growth in that area. This is a trade-off that you’ll need to explain to the hippos in real life. Instead of just saying what you would do, emphasize how your approach will impact top-line revenue and reduce customer acquisition cost (CAC). In practice, everyone wants results with minimal investment and infrastructure. As a product manager, you’ll need to figure out how to make that happen despite the constraints. So, practice solving problems with multiple constraints, and see how you can work your way around them. The next time you face a product challenge, consider how you might solve the problem with seemingly impossible constraints, and learn how to navigate those challenges effectively. We all know that delivering results is crucial as a PM, but so is how those results are perceived. This is where optics comes in. It's about intentionally shaping how others see your work, impact, and value. Shreyas Doshi gives us insightful tips on how to become better at optics. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝟭. Just wrapped up Shreyas Doshi's Product Sense course in late October. While it was an intense 8 days beyond the usual work schedule, it was the best product course I've taken in 2024. I've been following Shreyas for a few years and found his content valuable, applying it in my product career. I was initially skeptical as Product Sense felt like a vague concept, but I saw lots of positive feedback from the first few cohorts. Practicality was important to me and from day one, I found myself applying learnings in real product discussions. While it's called "Product Sense," it masterfully covers Product Strategy too. Aha Moments: • Product Sense is a learnable skill through understanding human motivation • Decomposing what Product Sense is and how to notice and practice it daily • The power of simulation in product decisions • How segmentation and differentiation work as a continuous loop Shreyas's thoughtfulness shows in every detail - from the meticulous content to the brisk, interactive format and the not your typical AMAs.
