This paper outlines the reasons why next-generation architecture is needed that can protect technology, systems, networks, and data in a dynamic risk environment. Although the Internet is integral to the flow of information across the globe and national boundaries, it was not built for the highly sensitive, critical data we see today. Architecture throughout protocol and software application stacks is not set up to face the cybersecurity issues. Cyber Security & Computer Forensics Expert Lee Neubecker and Data Privacy Expert Debbie Reynolds discuss recent efforts to pass legislation in the House and Senate that would hold telecommunication providers responsible for addressing the ever-growing tide of robocalls disrupting consumers and businesses. Existing laws such as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act have proven effective in blocking offshore robocalls. VOIP technology allows for robocall centers to systematically dial U.S. consumers and businesses from beyond the legal reach of our court system. Popular spoofing techniques such as Neighborhood Calling often impersonate the first 6 digits of the call receiver’s phone number in the hope of enticing that call receiver to answer a call. Neubecker and Reynolds both share their frustrations with the current situation and are hopeful the U.S. Senate and the President will take immediate action to pass updated privacy legislation protecting us all from spam robocalls.

Europe is tackling the biggest issues of the modern age and the rest of the world watches and follows. Case in point, the EU GDPR set a global standard for data privacy and the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2) aims at doing the same for e-commerce. With PSD2, companies providing payment services in Europe, not just those headquartered there, must comply with the directive's requirements for strong customer authentication (SCA) or risk losing their payment provider license. iovation, a TransUnion company, recently analyzed the impact of PSD2 based on interviews with banks, PSPs and merchant executives. Hear key findings including how unprepared companies are for PSD2, the impact on companies outside the EU, and what steps can be taken to meet requirements without driving up customer attrition.
Key takeaways: - How do companies ensure cart abandonment does not increase with the new SCA requirements under PSD2
- How stricter requirements for fraud prevention in the EU drive fraud to other regions such as the U.S.
- What can companies do to succeed in a post-PSD2 world

"Big data" is a term for the collection of large and complex data sets and the analysis of these data sets for relationships. Big data has only become possible in recent years with advances in technology and understanding the possibilities of the use of data. While there are many benefits to the growth of big data analytics, traditional methods of privacy protections often fail. Many notions of privacy rely on informed consent for the disclosure and use of an individual's private data. However, big data means that data is a resource that can be used and reused, often in ways that were inconceivable at the time the data was collected.
