Studies show that lab-grown chaga reaches only 50% of the potency of wild harvested chaga. So why are leading companies in the mushroom industry sourcing lab-grown chaga ? Lower costs. I would love to see industry leaders consider combining wild-harvested options with lab grown, if not going completely with wild harvested ingredients. Especially as consumers become more aware of the outstanding benefits compared to the lesser quality lab-grown versions. What do you think ?

It is disheartening to see the government’s current stance on the hemp industry, especially when there is a significant opportunity to enact meaningful and positive change. Instead of implementing targeted regulations to address the challenges posed by unregulated and intoxicating hemp products—largely introduced by unscrupulous actors—the proposed measures threaten to destabilize a $28 billion industry due to a fundamental misunderstanding of its operations. Perpetuating myths that label hemp and cannabis as gateway drugs or dismiss their medical benefits ignores the lived experiences of countless individuals. Think of cancer patients finding relief during chemotherapy, opioid addiction survivors seeking alternative therapies, veterans managing PTSD, and many others who rely on hemp and cannabis as primary treatments for pain and other conditions. We must prioritize education and implement effective regulations to protect the hemp industry from bad actors, whether they are within the industry itself or in policymaking positions. This headline below should really be #amended... Despite overregulation and heavy taxation, the #USA Cannabis industry has achieved this impressive financial milestone. But...the headline would be more #accurate amended to: ''Adult Use Cannabis Markets ONLY generated $20 Billion in State Tax Revenue DUE to over-regulation and over taxation.'' Economist Beau Whitney of Whitney Economics, highlights the challenges in a recent posting: 📣 The illicit market is worth $79 billion 💡 $3.8 billion in delinquent payments pushing operators back to illicit 🔥 Ten states saw declining revenues in 2023 🤦‍♂️ 32,000 out of 40,000 licensees in the U.S. are not profitable These issues underline the impact of #excessive regulation and taxation. Reducing these #burdens could potentially double the industry's economic contributions, #curb the illicit market, and improve public safety. Hopefully, with the #hoopla about rescheduling, it’s seen as past time to stop hindering our industry's economic potential, and start creating a more open & supportive regulatory environment at the federal level for #Cannabis

Do you think Big CPG sets a good example of quality and product safety? I don’t But I feel hopeful that we’ll have a technical renaissance of sorts over the next decade We have to refocus on building systems that work for us right now, instead of waiting until we have the time or resources to build those systems The time objection can be somewhat addressed with a true risk-based approach to quality and product safety The resources objection, I take issue with If you don’t have the resources to build a simple system that assures the safety and quality of your products… You have a broken business model Back to Big CPG At the surface, they have their sh*t together because, well, they must, right? The recalls and consumer deaths over the last few years tell us otherwise Cut out the noise and build your systems now before a serious adverse event forces your hand But at that point, you’re already too late You have a responsibility to your customers starting on day one Not when it’s convenient #quality #compliance #manufacturing #brands #CPG #FDA #consulting

Here are 5 things to learn that will make founding and operating a CPG brand easier If you sell products like: -beauty/cosmetic/personal care -dietary supplements -foods or beverages -tattoo ink or aftercare -topical OTCs -animal food -hair growth potions -witchcraft and/or wizardry The things to learn are: 1. Brand vs manufacturer quality responsibilities 2. Contract manufacturing relationships 3. Compliant influencer marketing 4. Specification development 5. Root cause analysis If you find yourself with thoughts like these: -I thought the co-man was taking care of that! -Our manufacturer doesn't care at all! -We can't control what our influencers say. -The manufacturer has specifications, we don't need them. -The co-man's explanation makes sense, I believe them. Brand vs Commodity This is a conversation that's been happening at LCH for a couple years now, as well as the #cannabisindustry at large As the MI retail market began to struggle, margins compressed, and more retailers stopped paying their bills, we saw risk rising on the brand side Building a brand is expensive, it requires a sales team, marketing budget, and much, much more We took a hard look at our vertical model, and the commodity side seemed much more attractive It was a much leaner operation- no sales team, no marketing budget, no retail risk Selling bulk quantities to brands and processors made for large transactions paid COD Our solution was to scale up the commodity business and scale back the brand side So far it has proven to be a formula that's kept us in the black In the short term, it's proven to be the right decision Long term, only time will tell What are your thoughts on brand vs commodity as business models in #cannabis?
