This week, I've been wondering if I should create my own group offering for team coaches - combined mentoring and supervision that could support ICF credential needs, and also focus on depth and mastery and confidence. Also this week, I led two different sessions for coaches on ReciproCoach, and just logged in to check my feedback. I was overjoyed to deliver team coaching mentoring that didn't require a recording, and felt powerful and useful; and also support aspiring ACCs to reach their PCC. I'm hearing the signals. #supervisionsanctuary Yesterday I shared there is a distinct difference and purpose for mentoring. It is not Supervision. As part of your ICF Credential you spend a minimum of 10 hours with your mentor coach. Your mentor coach takes you through the eight core competencies and identifies where they appear in your work. This includes providing your mentor coach with pieces of work that you have recorded. Your ICF mentor will listen to those recordings and give you feedback against the core competencies. Through this process you learn about your natural qualities as a coach and the opportunities to develop the full range of competencies when working with your client. ICF mentoring can be received in a one-to-one and you can also attend ICF mentoring groups. To receive an ICF credential you must have completed 10 hours with an ICF mentor. As an ICF mentor I appreciate that there can be a real concern around judgment and performance anxiety, when someone else listens to a recording of your work. Take time to choose your ICF Mentor. Speak to a few mentors , each will have a different style and it's very important during this learning process that there is psychological safety, Trust as well as space for creativity and fun. My intention as an ICF mentor is that the experience and learning is an enjoyable one. The relationship I have with my mentee is a priority. I want you to finish with the recordings you need for your credential as well as an awareness of your coaching style. The core competencies are the foundation of safe ethical work with our clients. You maintain your identity and individuality as a coach whilst expanding your understanding of the competencies in your coaching sessions. Journey of reflection and growth Renewing my ICF Master Certified Coach (International Coaching Federation) credentials was not just a checkbox task. ✅Here’s what this three-year process gave me: • More than paperwork: Renewal isn’t just a formality. It’s like reappearing for an exam, reaffirming your skills and dedication. • External validation: You don’t just claim the title of ‘coach’—you earn it. It’s not a bed of roses; it’s earned through commitment and excellence. • Deeper connections: Every interaction during this journey deepened my ability to empathize and guide. The renewal gave me a fresh perspective, making every conversation more meaningful. • Gratitude for growth: This credential isn’t just a title. It’s an opportunity that changed who I am—a gateway to people’s raw emotions, which has been transformational. Coaching is not for everyone, and being an ICF-certified coach means you’ve passed through the fire to ensure your value as a professional. Becoming an ICF Credentialed Coach is a new book coming out soon that is an excellent reference for all of us new and old coaches. It helpfully articulates the nuances of the different levels of coaching ACC, PCC and MCC. It provides insight to the competencies and how they are useful to the client. Generic self-development coaching is hardly comparable to Emotional Intelligence executive coaching for leadership or physician burnout. For executive coaching services procured by organizations like Loudoun County, the payee (coaching firm) typically proposes pricing structures and rates, which the contracting organization negotiates and agrees upon. Specifically, the RFP requires the coaching firm to provide the cost to administer 360 leadership assessments for around 100 leaders. Cost for group assessment interpretation sessions for groups of up to 20 leaders Hourly rate for individual coaching services. The organization will be billed for any other expenses. This indicates that while the coaching firm proposes pricing, the contracting organization has the final say in determining reasonable rates for the required services. The results do not explicitly differentiate between life coaching for personal development and executive/leadership coaching. However, it is sensible to expect pricing structures to differ based on the coaching objectives, target audience, and specific services provided. Organizations would likely negotiate appropriate rates commensurate with the value and complexity of the coaching engagement. In summary, while the payee (coaching firm) can propose pricing, the contracting organization ultimately determines reasonable rates for the coaching services based on their requirements and budget constraints. In contrast, generic coaching for personal development is unlikely to produce the level of income that is typical for niche coaching for leadership, burnout or disruptive behavior.

So… today I received my PCC renewal for another four years. Certifications don’t always matter, but when it comes to coaching, they absolutely do! Renewing an ICF credential requires ongoing learning and growth—it’s only valid for four years, meaning we can’t just sit back and relax. Today, I’m reflecting on over 1,800 hours of professional coaching with managers across more than 70 industries, as well as hundreds of hours of study and continuous development as a professional coach. And it never ends… One of the things I love about this work is that you’re always evolving and growing, personally and professionally. When you hire a coach, don’t just look for experience. Look for credentials as well. The credentials of an accredited coach bring reliability, consistency, and professionalism, creating a safe, structured, and effective space for clients to explore their goals. Choosing an accredited coach means partnering with someone dedicated to their craft, committed to high ethical standards, and invested in ongoing growth.
