This book offers some delicious wine recommendations to pair with the many milestones of parenting, from the best wine to have on your first 'date night' out, all the way up to the best glass of wine to have with your…

The Sustainable Winegrowing Program was initiated in January 2001 by winegrowing members of Wine Institute and the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG) to promote vineyard and winery practices that are sensitive to the environment, responsive to the needs and interests of society-at-large, and economically feasible to implement and maintain. Wine Institute is a public policy advocacy group, representing more than 975 California wineries and affiliated businesses responsible for 85 percent of the nation's wine production. CAWG is a public policy advocacy group of winegrape growers, representing more than 60 percent of the total annual grape crush. Together they developed the Code of Sustainable Winegrowing Practices workbook as the basis for the Sustainable Winegrowing Program, providing a tool for vintners and growers to assess their practices and learn how to improve their overall sustainability. Wine Institute and CAWG formed the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance to assist in program implementation. These organizations will continue to work together to promote sustainable winegrowing practices that benefit the environment, the community and high quality grapes and wine.

Free the Grapes! is a national grassroots coalition of wine lovers, wineries and retailers who seek to remove restrictions in states that still prohibit consumers from purchasing wines directly from wineries and retailers. The goal of Free the Grapesl is to ensure consumer choice in wine. The organizations advocates augmenting, not replacing, the three-tier system with limited, regulated direct-to-consumer shipments. (The so-called three-tier system includes wineries, wholesalers and retailers.) Consumers are driving changes in how products are bought and sold– they want and expect to be able to purchase the wines they want in the manner of their choosing, for example, by telephone, catalog and online. The U.S. Supreme Court, Federal Trade Commission, and three-quarters of U.S. states also support consumer choice in wine. But rather than complementing a dynamic marketplace, wine wholesaler middlemen are aggressively supporting state-sanctioned monopolies in wine distribution. The Wine & Spirit Wholesalers of America’s (WSWA) threat to winemakers has been, “ship the wine, do some time.” Their well-funded lobby seeks to further restrict consumer choice by overturning proven direct shipping legislation, by requiring face-to-face transactions, and by banning shipments based on a winery’s size. Free the Grapes believes that wholesaler middlemen can and should compete based on delivering service and value, not by creating felony laws and making threats of jail time. Free the Grapes! was established in June 1998 by five wine industry associations which together represent thousands of U.S wineries. A 501c(6) non-profit California trade association, Free the Grapes’ operations are funded exclusively by contributions from wine consumers, winemakers and retailers.
