We just audited an national OEM approved agency in GA4 ( Google Analytics 4 ) the results are horrendous.  Please review the GA4 Snapshot provided – below: Analyzing specific Channels of "Paid Search" and "Paid Shopping" outlined in red. Audit Findings: Both "Paid Search" and "Paid Shopping" should have “Session Key Event Rates” of at least 2% as the minimum Goal. Paid Shopping - Session Key Event Rate is 1.22% Paid Search - Session Key Event Rate is 0.82% A Few Thoughts:   Is this the performance the OEM should be endorsing through the approved marketing agency requirement? Does the OEM not care since the dealer is required to obtain co-op funding reimbursement?   Is the industry overflowing with opportunity , so we don’t care if marketing investments drive actionable sales opportunities?  Accountability:   Our Marketing Investments Should Drive Results – regardless if they are co-op funded or dealer direct investments! Key Events:   Are Purchase, Mobile Call, Form Submissions, Phone Call, Chat Conversions and DR Form Submissions = Direct Conversion For Sales.   ( NOT SRP / VDP Views ) Be sure you are actively auditing your current paid search strategy and having meetings with your agency.  Final Note:  Regardless of Co-Op Funding it is still a Direct Dealer Investment = You Own the Result based on your accountability.  Please follow me Robert S. Google was caught, again, lying to everyone about SEO signals. I'm sure you saw the headline by now. However experienced SEOs weren't tricked. Our tests have always been the truth tellers. Hopefully your SEOs weren't surprised either. If they were, you may need an upgrade. This stuff is very hard. I preach about entities, CRO, usability, all this stuff for a reason. I preach about building SEO campaigns around all this. If you hire amateurs, who are not truly up to speed, you pay more in the long run. I've been watching the market slip into cheaper and cheaper economy SEO services. This is a key reason why that should have never happened. If you think these thoughts have value for others, please repost. Maybe we can turn this industry around and save businesses a ton of future heartache.

This came up during a recent client call (well, bike ride). For small companies with pinched budgets, is SEO or PPC the better option? There's no universal answer - but there is a metaphor. Think of SEO as digging a canal to guide a stream to your backyard. It's a lot of work, and it takes a while, but then you've got free water out back for the long haul. Think of PPC as calling a water company. Sure, they'll bring you a jug whenever you pony up the cash, but if you stop paying, they stop showing up. We know what they want us to know, but data doesn't lie. As I look at year-over-year performance for several brands in Google Ads, I find consistent performance dips around this time of year. There are a lot of reasons why this might happen and while we may never know exactly what's going on, my message of reassurance is to be patient. Algorithms change and it's usually for the better (in the long run). Give your ads a couple weeks to chill out, make quality optimizations, then wait. Panicking is never helpful and knee-jerk reactions actually do have a tendency to negatively impact your ads. (This applies to your SEO, too.) I'll tell you the one main thing that is causing this client's organic search engine traffic to start to take off, and how you can add it to your website... Last summer they averaged ~8 visitors a day. With SEO, now they're averaging ~30 a day, and we're just getting started. 🚀 Yes, we optimized their website's structure. Yes, we continue to do on-going content. But I believe the secret to this business's organic starting to gain momentum is a little thing called Schema. What's Schema? It's Google's love language. When Google comes to your website they make educated guesses. "I think this is the product. I'm assuming this is what it's about." When you add Schema it TELLS search engines exactly what your product is about. Google no longer has to guess your business name, product, prices, reviews, phone number, or anything else you tell it. And because you spoke its love language it trusts your website more. And when Google trusts your website more it ranks it higher.
