Google was caught, again, lying to everyone about SEO signals. I'm sure you saw the headline by now. However experienced SEOs weren't tricked. Our tests have always been the truth tellers. Hopefully your SEOs weren't surprised either. If they were, you may need an upgrade. This stuff is very hard. I preach about entities, CRO, usability, all this stuff for a reason. I preach about building SEO campaigns around all this. If you hire amateurs, who are not truly up to speed, you pay more in the long run. I've been watching the market slip into cheaper and cheaper economy SEO services. This is a key reason why that should have never happened. If you think these thoughts have value for others, please repost. Maybe we can turn this industry around and save businesses a ton of future heartache.
Publicly traded companies always be finding more revenue and shareholder value.
Right! We build in quality audits, UX and CRO as part of our SEO campaigns for the reason that it matters.
Interesting topic, Bill! It's crazy how often Google pulls these stunts. Let's hope more people wake up to the truth, upgrade their SEO game, and stop falling for the same old tricks.
Yes- this. DYOR and form independent opinions.

6moNo they weren't. The people falsely accusing Google of lying simply don't know what they are talking about. One of the most frequently repeated lies out of this debacle was the claim that "Google never told us they were using click data". They've ALWAYS told us they were using click data. It's in research papers and patent filings. They just don't use click data to adjust final search results (except in personalization). Another false claim is that "Google denied collecting data through browsers". Again, they told us clearly and openly about the Chrome User Experience Report and the fact that data is used in their systems. The lies are coming from the SEOs. These API documents don't reveal any algorithmic secrets. They're not documenting the processes that lead from crawling the Web to serving search results. They document the data that can be fetched through the APIs. The misinterpretations from the SEO community about what those data items are and are used for aren't Google's fault. You can accept the explanations of the people who make and use the system (as far as they're willing to divulge anything) or you can accept the fairytales and fables made up by people who have no access to or training in using those systems.
