making this campaign for Monopoly GO was very fun! and very hard! which is why i'm a week late posting about it. you've likely already seen it :) there's always a lot of industry chatter about how grueling advertising is. today alone I saw two posts about it. and it's true! most days spent bringing this campaign to life were easily 12 or 14 hours. sometimes we wonder why we nearly kill ourselves making campaigns; it's not life-saving work, true. but it is sales-generating, job-creating, and economy-driving. it's also true that i really like my job and i like my teammates even more--agency and client side. here is one of my favorite visuals from the 20+ unique live action + animated films we made for the debut Friendship Pays campaign for Monopoly GO! the top hat set was partially practically built and partially extended in post. I love the camera moves and tricks, the lighting, colors, and the line. I can't figure out how to post both the video and my BTS photo here so I guess we'll see which one makes it onto the post. here is a very abbreviated thank you list: thank you to Erica Hara. i might have been a brand department of 1 on this project, but you never let me do the hard things alone: always having my back and helping me analyze every highly complex piece of this puzzle, while leading the production like a vet. thank you to Noyle Jones, for constantly consulting me, but ultimately shouldering the insane weight and stress of 4 celeb negotiations on your own. you don't get enough credit, and we could not have done this without your level headed patience, persistence, and of course, ninja level expertise. thank you to Jimmy Barker and Raul Montes. throughout this project I think we beautifully perfected the natural push/pull of our roles into a balanced harmony full of mutual respect and lolz. thank you to the entire team at Omelet. Liquid Death estimated revenue is a rapidly growing $260M+ in a very crowded and commoditized category. My hypothesis is that it's primarily because of distribution gains or new SKUs vs SSS growth or NPS or creative buzz. End of the day it's still a business. HOWEVER I give them so much credit for investing in building equity as so many young brands are just trying to create cash flow (eg pay bills) via performance marketing esp in such a commoditized category.m... Valuations are nice ($1.4B) but even Theranos was once valued at $10B. Time will tell.

The Ultimate Marketer - This morning's opening address at The Richmond Marketing Forum was very interesting, featuring a star-studded panel. The key takeaway was to always wear two hats – that of the customer and that of commercial – a principle very close to our brand beliefs.
