In this FreightWaves interview, Troy Ryley of Echo Global Logistics, addresses that no matter what you do to prevent cargo theft in Mexico, whether that's becoming CTPAT, using only CTPAT certified partners, moving freight in convoys, using armed pilots, leveraging in-cab, in-pallet, and/or on-trailer telematics with rapid response planning from police and/or private investigators......"the bad guys will always have bigger guns and jammers." That sure is unfortunate, but its real and Troy shares here that the only real solution is to have a Borderless Coverage program in place offering All Risk Cargo Insurance in Mexico that is Inclusive of theft. We are excited to share the latest Cali Baja border crossing statistics for Q2 2024. Key findings reveal a 3.3% increase in crossings compared to the previous quarter, with daily crossings exceeding 200,000 across all seven ports of entry. The San Ysidro Port of Entry remains the busiest, accounting for 46% of Cali Baja crossings—approximately 92,000 daily, including both pedestrians and vehicle passengers. This Q2 report also features the average daily cargo count from Monday to Friday in our 3 commercial ports of entry (Otay Mesa is the second busiest in the southern border, after Laredo). Across the entire 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border, an impressive 500,000 legal crossings occur each day, highlighting the vital role these crossings play in the economic and social fabric of our communities. These crossings are not just numbers; they represent the flow of people, goods, and services that drive the prosperity and interconnectedness of our two countries. Without them, crops like almonds, blueberries, and citrus just wouldn’t be as fruitful! 🍓🍋 Did you know that Florida is home to over 5,000 beekeepers and around 600,000 managed honeybee colonies? These busy bees are responsible for pollinating crops not just in Florida , but across the entire country. In fact, more than 90% of commercial beekeepers in the U.S. are migratory, transporting hives thousands of miles each year to meet the growing demand for pollination. Talk about a sweet journey! 🍯🚛 Florida's beekeeping industry is key to the massive crop pollination efforts across the United States. Each year, Florida’s migratory beekeepers transport thousands of hives to states like California, where they help pollinate the state’s 1.3 million acres of almond trees—a crop valued at $6 billion annually. Without these beekeepers and the truckers that keep them buzzing along the highways, many of our nation’s most important crops wouldn’t thrive. 🌸🐝 These hives are a hive of activity on the road. Semi-trucks loaded with up to 400 hives each make the long trip from Florida to California’s Central Valley, where they pollinate almonds. From there, the bees keep on buzzing to places like Washington and Maine to pollinate cherries and blueberries, ensuring critical food production continues across the country.
