The thought is that acquiring multiple practices can allow these equity firms to negotiate commercial insurer reimbursement rates. Hospital and Health System Transactions The volume of announced transactions grew significantly in Q3 2024. With 27 announced transactions, Q3 had the highest level of activity thus far in 2024 and in line with pre-pandemic activity levels. Announced sales resulting from the Steward Health Care bankruptcy represented a significant amount of this volume, with 11 of the 27 announced transactions involving Steward hospitals.

The senior living industry, like many, is experiencing a shift and some interesting trends. ➡️ On the capital side we are seeing a reduction in new construction starts and a decrease in M&A volume. ➡️ From the owners' side, the interest rates and margin compression issues are still lingering and debt coverage is a challenge. ➡️ On the operations side, occupancy for senior living has continued to increase for the last eight quarters. It is continuing to meet or exceed the levels in many pre-pandemic markets. ➡️ From the healthcare side, we are seeing healthcare integrate even more with senior living with better coordination and planning of health outcomes. Our own Nathan Paulsen, MBA, who joined Oshi recently from a national payer, wrote a great article about value-based specialty care. Definitely worth reading in the post & link below. The main question underlying the transition to #valuebasedcare outside of the traditional primary care, full-risk for whole populations and government innovation models is this: Do commercial health plans have both the incentives and the resources to execute new ways of contracting for specialties that require more nuanced attribution of risk? Even when they acknowledge these specialties are driving the majority of the cost? Anyone seeing health plans that are leaning in? Anyone experiencing issues where plans talk a big game about VBC but then don't really have resources to do the actuarial, data and contracting work?
