We’d like to recognize faculty members Sabrina Habib, MFA, Ph.D. and Marcia Purday, APR for their leadership in the CIC’s explorations of how artificial intelligence will shape the way we teach, conduct research and provide critical services for students. Purday has been instrumental in promoting the IBM SkillsBuild initiative through which 58% of our faculty and staff have completed an artificial intelligence fundamentals certification. Habib has given workshops on unlocking the power of AI in academic research as well as speaking about AI trends at a recent PRSA conference. These are just a few examples of the ways they have helped the college to be fearlessly first in artificial intelligence. https://lnkd.in/eU5XkBM6

This semester, Dean Reichert has stepped back into the classroom to teach Intro to Advertising to 325 students—the largest class of his career. “Interacting with the students in this way reminds all of us why we’re here, and, quite frankly, it re-energizes me.” The energy he derives from student interaction reminds him of his purpose at the CIC. “A conference at USC during my sophomore year introduced me to the work that has been my livelihood since I graduated: social media management. Dawn Staley and A'ja Wilson helped me find a passion in basketball that would drive me to get to New York City. After working for both USC and the athletics department, I made a stop in Louisiana for a job and then had the opportunity a few months later to come up north to further pursue my dreams. Now, I manage social media for one of the top three most valuable teams in the NBA. My time at Carolina showed me that there are no limits to what I can do, where I can go and how successful I can be. USC will always have a special place in my life. It’s where my dreams began, even when I didn't know what they were.” Lakeyia Brown, MMC is senior manager for digital content with the New York Knicks, University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business ‘18, University of South Carolina College of Information and Communications MMC ‘23 Meet more #GamecocksofNY: go.sc.edu/GONY
