Building: Who Sponsors Stuff & The Newsletter Conference... We help media brands grow revenue.

We're *big* believers in events... In an era of flat AI-generated content, degrading anonymous audiences, and social channels filled with sludge, in-person events are a rare point of light and genuine connection. This year, in May, we launched The Newsletter Conference to bring together operators and professionals in our space in the heart of New York City. And we just held the ***17th*** Dine & Deliver dinner, bringing together folks in our space around the country — and perhaps soon around the world. Jesse Watkins and I want to thank every single person who's come out to one of these IRL events; it's been an amazing time for us, and we hope it's grown many fruitful relationships for others. We will be back with even more in the new year... More soon on that... Meanwhile, thank you to Dan Oshinsky, our talented MC and moderator, who has made all of these events pop and flow like no one else could. And huge thank you to all of our sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible: Omeda and SparkLoop as co-presenters of Dine & Deliver, with OpenWeb and Inbox Mailers as the dinners' supporting sponsors. And for the conference, Louis Nicholls 💫 in particular for taking a big bet on us, and OpenWeb, Marigold, FinanceBuzz, BuySellAds, Media Intercept, LiveIntent, a Zeta Global Company, Knight Foundation, HubSpot, Omeda, and Kit (formerly ConvertKit) for their support. More soon — and maybe even one more little surprise this year! 🎉 (and, no, LinkedIn... I don't want to "Rewrite with AI")

In less than 6 months we hit 15K subscribers to The Net Gains Newsletter! Here's what we did to get there: Prior to our mid-March launch, we spent weeks researching the sector to get to know SMB accountants. We spent even more time afterward to be sure we deliver what the sector wants and needs. - In May we attended The Newsletter Conference in NYC, where we gained tremendous insight from newsletter experts like Dan Oshinsky, Ryan Sager, & Jacob Donnelly. We put those learnings into place quickly. (Don't miss the next one, y'all!) - We tested and tested and tested. Send times, subject lines, topics, etc. There were clear winners and we let the data lead the way. - We hired an industry expert to curate the news. Paul McCormack has elevated the curation and content, leading us to incredible OR, CTR and engagement. Most importantly: giving our subscribers the news they need and can use. - We worked alongside Johnny Roberts, who is in charge of our paid social, to fine-tune our ads to attract just the right audience. Doing so skyrocketed our subscriber numbers and engagement. And this month in addition to hitting 15K subscribers, we brought on our first advertiser: Keeper.app It's been a whirlwind but in the best way. One of the things I'm most proud of is our team's agility, it's cohesiveness and how are truly a TEAM. Feels great to be part of a group that gets it. TLDR: We researched, tested, learned, tested again, adjusted, worked across our teams and did it all quickly. Anywho, if you're still here, thanks for reading. And a final pitch: Subscribe to the Net Gains at www.thenetgains.co or if you want advertise with us (and I promise, you do!) send me a message here. When it comes to newsletter growth, Matt McGarry is the guy you want to learn from. And you'll get the chance — if you join The Newsletter Seminar, our live-taught online course running in September! We talked to Matt ahead of his appearance at The Newsletter Conference in May. Here's some of what he had to say... 💌 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: 4 years. I started my first newsletter as a side project in 2018. I love analyzing and optimizing the numbers. Subscribers, open rate, CTR, churn, CPA, CAC, revenue, LTV, etc. It’s like a video game. I spend way too much time looking at my dashboards. I also love the impact my newsletter can have on people. There's no better feeling than getting replies from readers. 🤔 Who is ***The Newsletter Seminar*** for? As we gear up for our first-ever, cohort-based course — a live-taught, online course for newsletter operators, taking place over the month of September — some folks have asked us if The Newsletter Seminar is for them. We turn people away daily who aren't a fit for Who Sponsors Stuff for whatever reason, so I feel confident saying we're straight shooters on this type of stuff. So, who's The Newsletter Seminar for? 📈 Are you trying to grow your list, with REAL readers who will generate revenue (and not junk)? Then this is for you. 💸 Are you trying to sell your first sponsorship? Then this is for you. 💥 Are you trying to blow up an existing sponsorship program and take it to the next level? Then this is for you. 🙋♂️ Are you a solo operator looking to grow? Then this is for you. 🗞️ Are you a big, traditional publisher with a team getting its feet wet in the newsletter space? Then this is for you (or, a couple members of your team...) 💳 Are you a publisher looking to grow subscriptions or memberships? Then this is for you. And if you buy and it turns out *not* to be for you? We're offering a 100% money-back guarantee. We're here to teach you the skills to level up your newsletter game, like we've done with The Newsletter Conference and our other events. We've already got a great group coming together, representing newsletter brands from those just starting out to those with millions of subscribers. 🐦 Early Bird pricing EXTENDED through Wed., Aug. 28!!! If you haven't looked at the guests we have joining us, do *not* miss the big names! Link below in the comments... Hope to see you there! 💌

Jesse Watkins and I are thrilled to announce... ***The Newsletter Seminar: September 2024 🎓*** A live-taught, online course to help you build a profitable newsletter business... taking place over the month of September.   The Newsletter Conference brought together the industry for the first time earlier this year—and showed us just how hungry people in the newsletter space are to learn from each other and to connect with each other. So, we're bringing that energy to the virtual space, in a format that lets us all dig deeper into the practical, actionable ways we can improve our newsletter businesses. The Newsletter Seminar has three key components: Live sessions with awesome guest speakers (more on that below) Actionable course materials—released week-by-week as we cover topics like audience building, ad outreach & sales, and subscriptions & membership Access to an engaged community of peers in our dedicated digital space; meet and learn from others in the newsletter industry We're excited about what we've got in store for you. We hope you'll join us!
