One last exciting announcement before I head off for the festive period. On Weds 29th Jan at 5pm UK time (9am PT), Why Philanthropy Matters is teaming up with Lucy Bernholz and Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (Stanford PACS) to host a conversation as part of a series linking in with the publication of the 16th Annual Blueprint! In this free event, attendees can join Lucy and I (plus, TBC, some other guests) to explore "blurring boundaries". -As the range of organisations claiming a social purpose continues to expand, do the traditional dividing lines we draw between sectors still mean anything? -And in the wake of OpenAI's decision to abandon its original non-profit status and seek a new commercial structure, how should we view efforts to combine profit and purpose? If that sounds interesting to you, then please do join us! You can register at the link below (meeting details will then be sent out nearer the time). https://lnkd.in/efik9kTA

Great intellectual energy, super people, and some guaranteed moments of 'conviviality' in Paris. Importantly, we're open to junior researchers throughout the social sciences, not just (but including) management and organizations—all you need is a demonstrated interest in civil society, philanthropy, and/or social innovation. "Lessons from Europe" – A Unique Contribution to the Debate on Europe Thirty-five years ago, political changes in Central and Eastern Europe brought hope for a more democratic and prosperous future. Today, the reality is more complex. In Lessons from Europe: 22 Essays on the Future of Our Continent, editors Johanna Mair and Thomas Wieser have brought together leading experts to explore Europe’s challenges and opportunities through diverse perspectives. "We have gathered various different perspectives and arranged them without adding comments. In doing so, we not only explored how ‘the others’ observe ‘us’ but also sought to understand how ‘we’ view ‘the others.’" In a fragmented Europe, the lack of communication with our closest neighbours has led to information gaps, misunderstandings, and even fear. Better understanding and dialogue are key to bridging these divides. Lessons from Europe is not a manual with binding instructions on how to deal with Europe but a collection of insights for those seeking a deeper understanding of the continent’s journey.
