💡 The Grand Hall of the University of Belgrade Rectorate hosted Serbia’s first national ERC forum, a pivotal event organized to support researchers applying for prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants. 🛡️ The event was made possible through the collaboration of multiple institutions, including the Horizon Europe SECURE project, which played an important role in organizing the forum alongside other key partners. Dr. Petar Laušević from the Center for the Promotion of Science presented the SECURE project to the attendees, discussing its achievements to date and outlining future plans. 👏 Serbia currently holds three ERC grants—two in physics and one at the intersection of biology and archaeology. The forum, held on November 22, 2024, gathered ERC grant recipients, evaluators, research funding experts, science policymakers, and numerous interested researchers from Serbia. The event allowed participants to engage in interactive sessions, deepen their understanding of the application process, and network with peers and ERC representatives. 🤝 The forum was organized by the Center for the Promotion of Science and the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia, in collaboration with the University of Belgrade, the Austrian Cultural Forum in Belgrade, the ERC, the AERG, and the Horizon Europe SECURE project.

Nearly Half of Scientists Leave Academia in 10 Years 🚶♀️➡️ A new study shows that nearly 50% of scientists stop publishing within a decade of their first paper, with many leaving academia entirely. The research challenges the idea that women leave academia at higher rates than men, as attrition is now similar across genders. Pressures to publish and dissatisfaction with the academic environment are common reasons for this shift. How can we create a more supportive environment for researchers to thrive in academia? #Academia #ResearchCareers

🔹Launch of the Research and Innovation Careers Observatory🔹 The European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), with support from the Horizon Europe programme, have officially launched the Research and Innovation Careers Observatory (ReICO). This initiative aims to provide reliable data on research and innovation careers in EU and OECD countries. Developing attractive and sustainable careers for researchers and innovators is a key to enhancing Europe’s competitiveness and retaining talent. ReICO will empower policymakers, researchers, and organizations to make informed decisions by offering valuable insights into career paths. Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth, remarked: „Europe must attract and retain research talent to secure its future prosperity and competitiveness. Sound policies to achieve this goal must be based on reliable data. The Research and Innovation Careers Observatory will help fill the data gaps on research careers in Europe, providing crucial information for policymakers, researchers, and their organizations. It represents a crucial step forward in strengthening research careers in the European Research Area.“ YERUN - Young European Research Universities ABIS - The Academy of Business in Society Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN) Technopolis Group International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA) Eurodoc Marie Curie Alumni Association Adoc Talent Management Vitae University in Rijeka University of Cyprus Universidade Nova de Lisboa Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding - UEFISCDI WIFO Bay Zoltán Kutatóközpont VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH Center for the Promotion of Science
