🛳️ Scaling #greenmethanol is essential for net-zero shipping and Oxylus Energy is proud to have great investors like Azolla Ventures focusing on decarbonizing this sector through investment in alternative fuel technologies!🛳️
🚢 The shipping industry accounts for 3% of global emissions today, with projections reaching 10% by 2050 if urgent action isn't taken. The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2023 GHG Strategy sets ambitious decarbonization targets, aiming for net-zero by 2050, creating significant opportunities in alternative fuels. 🌱 Green methanol, ammonia, and carbon capture technologies are poised to play a crucial role in decarbonizing long-haul shipping. Investment in these solutions is vital, especially as regulatory incentives lag and infrastructure challenges loom. With investments in companies like Oxylus Energy (green methanol) and Calcarea (carbon capture), Azolla Ventures is invested in helping the shipping industry reduce emissions. The path to decarbonization is clear, and the time for bold investment is now. 💡 Read the full article written by Azolla Venture’s Amy Duffuor, and Alexandra Steckmest here: https://lnkd.in/gGcbFuXB #Sustainability #Decarbonization #GreenMethanol #Shipping #CarbonCapture #AzollaVentures

Oxylus Energy is thrilled to be part of Cohort 4 as part of the #C2VInitiative. The Carbon-to-Value Initiative helps develop carbon utilization for industrial decarbonization. We are excited for this support for scaling #carbontech from Greentown Labs, Urban Future Lab, CO2 Value Europe, Fraunhofer USA Inc., and NYSERDA.
ANNOUNCING: the nine startups selected for Year 4 of the #C2VInitiative! 🔸 Ardent is a process technology company that is developing membrane-based solutions for point-source carbon capture and other chemical separations. 🔸 CarbonBlue develops a chemical process that mineralizes and extracts CO2 from water, which then reabsorbs more atmospheric CO2. 🔸 MacroCycle Technologies develops a chemical recycling process to turn polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyester-fiber waste into “virgin-grade” plastics. 🔸 Maple Materials develops an electrolysis process to convert CO2 into graphite and oxygen. 🔸 Oxylus Energy develops a direct electrochemical process to convert CO2 into fuels and chemical feedstocks, such as methanol. 🔸 Phlair develops a renewable-energy-powered Direct Air Capture (DAC) system using an electrochemical process for acid and base generation. Secant Fuel develops a one-step electrocatalytic process that converts flue gas into syngas. 🔸 RenewCO₂ is developing an electrochemical process to convert CO2 into fuels and chemicals, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) or propylene glycol. 🔸 Seabound builds carbon-capture equipment for new and existing ships. Over this six-month accelerator, which is designed to advance the startups’ commercialization efforts and de-risk their #carbontech innovations, the cohort will gain access to the Carbontech Leadership Council and other resources valuable to their growth. You can meet the cohort at the Year 4 Kickoff Event on Sept. 19: https://lnkd.in/edgk9AgP Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/eNbMasak Urban Future Lab Fraunhofer USA Inc.

Today marks the next phase at Oxylus Energy as we announce the closing of our over-subscribed Series Seed fundraising round. A total of $4.5M in new capital is coming to Oxylus Energy from leading climate, energy, and strategic investors across the globe, along with U.S. state support. Toyota Ventures and Azolla Ventures are co-leading the investment round. In order to decarbonize the hard-to-abate sectors of aviation, shipping, and petrochemicals that are currently responsible for ~11% of emissions we need to bring down the cost of alternative fuels such as green methanol. Oxylus' low-cost CO2 electrolysis to green methanol can reduce costs and inefficiencies at each level of green methanol production. The Seed funding will go towards developing a pilot electrolyzer for future commercial and industrial deployment. You can find the exclusive interview with TechCrunch Tim De Chant below. https://lnkd.in/dqP7mWWq Thank you to Lisa Coca at Toyota Ventures, Amy Duffuor at Azolla Ventures for co-leading the round and to Earth Foundry and Connecticut Innovations for joining the round and showing your belief in the technology. We also want to thank our advisors Prof. Hailiang Wang, Mike Matson, Pete Schork, Karan Khimji, and Dan K. for their mentorship & advice. We are grateful to all the startup support via ClimateHaven and Third Derivative, along with our community Yale School of Management, Yale Ventures, Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (Tsai CITY), Yale School of the Environment, and Yale Center for Business and the Environment.
