Celebrating Our History: In just one example of our history of community champions who have propelled our mission, Leonard Goldenson created the UCP Telethon to fill the gaps in resources for those impacted by disability. While we don't have a telethon today, we still have wonderful donors who continue to be our champions and support our broad array of programs and services in thoughtful and transformative ways. For 80 years, Momentum has continued to champion inclusion, independence, and opportunity for all. Join us in making an impact for another 80 years! Momentum provides services and support resources for children and adults with disabilities and medical conditions.
About us
Founded more than 70 years ago, Momentum has become the largest nonprofit provider of direct-care services in Southern California for individuals with cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Serving over 1100 children and adults daily, our mission is to advance the independence, productivity and full citizenship of children and adults with developmental disabilities and those with similar service needs. Momentum offers over 40 programs and services across four counties, ranging from residential and day programs to advocacy and family support services. These include adult day activity and learning centers; affordable, accessible apartments, accompanied by supported living counselors; group homes with full activities and nursing staff; children’s programs; advocacy; and Respitality, giving parents a much needed break. In 2001, Momentum added Momentum Work, Inc. to our growing organization, expanding our services into Santa Barbara County. With the addition of Momentum Wheels for Humanity in 2007, Momentum's impact has been elevated to a global level.

Thank you to the holiday heroes at SullivanCurtisMonroe Insurance Services, LLC, who organized their holiday party this year with a mission in mind and collected over 100 toys for our Momentum Families! The toys immediately went into action, brightening the spirits of the children and families that our Pediatric team supports and creating more smiles than we can count! Grateful to SCM and all of our partners for stepping up to make this season as magical as possible and offer a reminder that our community has incredible champions in their corner. #Momentum4all

Our story began in 1945 when a small group of families knew they could do more to create a lifeline of services in the community for their children when services like that did not exist. 80 years later, Momentum continues to provide a lifespan of services, advancing inclusion, independence, and opportunity for all. Together, we’re building a future where we encourage individuals and families to dream. Join us in making an impact for another 80 years! Momentum is proud to share that over the past year, 208 children, ages 18 months to 3 years, participated in our Leaps & Bounds and other early intervention programs. These programs combined education, therapy, and play to support their growth and development. We’re thrilled to celebrate every milestone they’ve achieved! #Momentum4All #80YearsStrong #Momentum80for80
