  • A Moment for Reflection Over the weekend, a poignant gathering took place in Overland Park, as families and friends came together to remember loved ones lost to the devastating consequences of drunk driving. Hosted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the candlelight ceremony served as a solemn reminder of lives taken too soon and the unshakable grief left behind. At Lamp Rynearson, we are reminded of the importance of fostering connections that strengthen and protect our communities. This time of year, with its joyful festivities and celebrations, carries an added responsibility to care for one another. As Anthony (Tony) O’Malley, our Water Services Group Leader, and a 40+ year member of the Lamp Rynearson family, who lost his wife to a drunk driver, shared: "People have to think. People have to make arrangements. Have a good time, but don’t drive drunk. It produces devastation that doesn’t go away." These words, heavy with truth, urge us to pause and reflect—not just on the cost of these senseless tragedies, but on the role each of us plays in preventing them. This holiday season, we encourage everyone to plan ahead, make safe decisions, and look out for one another. Whether it’s designating a driver, calling a ride, or hosting responsibly, these small actions save lives. As engineers and stewards of community-building, we are reminded that our work extends beyond projects and infrastructure. It’s about creating safer, more connected environments for everyone. And as individuals, our choices matter—because every life is precious, every family deserves to feel whole, and every tragedy avoided is a step toward a better tomorrow. This holiday season, we stand together. For every life. For every legacy. To learn more about MADD: https://hubs.li/Q02_P5kK0
