It was my pleasure to deliver the University of Pretoria Smart Grid seminar last month. The collaboration with the South African power researchers and industry has been very productive.
On the 30th of October in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Professor Ganesh Kumar Venayagamoorthy, a visiting professor from Clemson University, USA and the Vice-President for Industry Relations of the International Neural Network Society (INNS), delivered the University of Pretoria Smart Grid seminar on “Emerging Trends in Power Systems”. A group of researchers and students gathered to hear Professor Venayagamoorthy, an IEEE Fellow and Editor of the Wiley-IEEE Press Series on Power and Energy Systems, speak about the challenges faced by the power industry and the need to embrace smart grid and other emerging technologies such as scalable and sustainable artificial intelligence for the future electric power system.
