Sustainability at a pivot point: Compliance or investment. Can both be done? Last week, Harry Friend, Nick Hedley and Caroline Wicks (She/Her/Hers) along with Chris Coulter, CEO of GlobeScan was delighted to host a select group of sustainability leaders from a wide variety of sectors and backgrounds to explore the topic of regulation in relation to sustainability. We enjoyed a pragmatic and forward-thinking discussion, focused on the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly regulated global landscape in relation to sustainability, all against a backdrop of balancing shareholder demands. A huge thank you to our fantastic guests for their contribution and to Chris for his insights. #compliance #corporatefunctions #board #executivesearch #sustainability #shareholders #leadership #regulation
Sustainability at a pivot point: Compliance or investment. Can both be done? Last week, Hedley May, along with Chris Coulter, CEO of GlobeScan, hosted a breakfast for a group of senior sustainability leaders from a range of FTSE100 industries. Attendees compared notes on how they were tackling increased sustainability compliance and reporting requirements whilst balancing the often-competing demands of their shareholders, Boards, and internal stakeholders. We enjoyed a pragmatic and forward-thinking debate and were pleased to see how our guests drew comfort from the alignment they saw from others approach. A huge thank you to my colleagues Nick Hedley and Caroline Wicks (She/Her/Hers) and, in particular to our fantastic guests for their contribution and to Chris for his insights. #compliance #corporatefunctions #board #executivesearch #sustainability #shareholders #leadership #regulation

We were delighted to host our very first Hedley May Career's Day in partnership with Making The Leap. A cohort of 14 graduates joined us to hear from two fantastic external speakers and to take part in a series of skills sessions led by the Hedley May team. A huge thank you to Steven Cooper CBE, CEO of Aldermore Group, who gave an inspiring fireside chat with Nick Hedley, full of advice and insightful learnings from throughout his career. And to Nick Hastings MBPsS, MD of Nick Hasting's Consulting, for leading an informative and engaging session on the what, why and how of psychometric assessments. All of us at Hedley May were hugely impressed by the eagerness to learn, ambition and curiosity of each of those who joined us. They left us energised and we hope we equipped them with a new set of skills and wise words. #makingtheleap #careeradvice #development #growth #socialmobility #personaldevelopment #careertips #jobsearch

Last week Hedley May sponsored an interview skills day at Haggerston School, organised by our community partner Business Education Events (BEE). The entire London office were lucky enough to spend the morning conducting mock interviews with year 12 students. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were hugely impressed by the attitude, approach and ability of the young people we met. Thank you Haggerston School for having us, and thank you once again Business Education Events (BEE) for your fantastic work. Most importantly, we would like to wish all of the year 12 students good luck for the future! Last Thursday Business Education Events (BEE) were given the opportunity to facilitate our ‘BEE interviewed' programme with the fantastic Year 12 students from Haggerston School. What made it even more special was that it was so generously sponsored by Hedley May and also supported on the day with their wonderful team of people. Without their generosity this would programme would not have taken place! Business Volunteers from Babcock International Group, Natural History Museum, Smartsheet and Secretariat also gave up their valuable time to take part. Volunteers guided their 4 allocated Students through their first daunting, professional interview. Each student was interviewed individually, then given verbal and written feedback. Volunteers then had to choose their ‘successful candidate’. It really was a brilliant, uplifting morning and beautifully summed up by this student comment: “I cannot thank everyone enough – today was just incredible, the feedback was so detailed and my interviewer was so professional” Thank you so very much to Karen Frizzell,Pradhis Maharaj,Shakila A.,Dom Wooldridge Dr Jane Desborough, Pippa Jenkins, Sacha Khangura , Nicola Walker, Nick Hedley, Lucy Jones, Laveeza M.,Laura Juniper,Kirsten Sills,Jack Bridges, Ian Black, Alex Pinsent,Amelia Sanders, Caroline Crown,Verity Walker,Caroline Wicks (She/Her/Hers),Clare Menzies,Harry Friend and Henry Thompson. #HedleyMay #Teamwork #Givingback #Thankyou

Harry Friend who leads our Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Practice, has released a key study on ‘The Chief Communications Officer in Focus’. At a time when stakeholder expectations of business have increased significantly, the role of the Chief Communications Officer is more important than ever. However, of all of the functional roles, it remains the least well-defined and, as a consequence, a challenging appointment to get right. In this short paper, we set out the three key factors that elevate the best CCOs today: they must be in the room, they must be commercial in their judgement of opportunities and not just react in a crisis and they must build a trusted relationship with the CEO whilst remaining independent. We also argue that having too many unclear or grey areas around the remit of the role could significantly impact reputation. Karen Frizzell, Caroline Wicks (She/Her/Hers) and Pippa Jenkins hosted another successful 'Talent Talks' breakfast discussing the topic of ‘The Intelligence Revolution – how organisations are evolving through AI: the challenges and opportunities'. The overarching theme of the discussion was the need, as always, to link AI to organisational strategy and to show what it can be in service of. #AI #talenttalks #succession #futureofHR #leadership #executivesearch #humanresources
Last week, Hedley May was delighted to host a select group of HR leaders from across a wide variety of sectors and backgrounds for the latest in our series of 'Talent Talks' breakfast events. A thought-provoking conversation on the topic ‘The Intelligence Revolution – how organisations are evolving through AI: the challenges and opportunities' took place. What emerged from the open, constructive and pragmatic conversation was an excitement for the potential of AI, the opportunities already grasped and the enthusiasm for AI as a game-changing enabler of talent and growth across organisations. The overarching theme of the discussion was the need, as always, to link AI to organisational strategy and to show what it can be in service of. A huge thank you from us all, and particularly from me, Pippa Jenkins and Karen Frizzell, to our fantastic guests for their insights, which we look forward to sharing in more detail in the coming weeks. #AI #talenttalks #succession #futureofHR #leadership #executivesearch #humanresources
