This October, CRAF’d participated alongside over 1,800 global leaders at the 12th Global Dialogue Platform. #CRAFd2024Recap: With crises becoming more complex—driven by displacement, climate change, or migration risks—actionable data is the key to saving lives. That’s why CRAF’d and partners recognized the urgent need for datasets that not only inform decisions but also empower communities to anticipate, prepare for, and recover from disasters. In April, CRAF’d invested $3.5 million—a deliberate step toward building a resilient future. Here’s where that investment is making an impact: ▪️ Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC): Creating a global dataset to address the needs of over 70 million internally displaced individuals. ▪️ IOM - UN Migration: Mapping migration risks for 40 million people to enable targeted interventions. ▪️ ICPAC : Delivering localized climate hazard models to help East African communities act before disasters strike. ▪️ Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre : Developing composite risk indices to support anticipatory humanitarian action in Africa and the Middle East. ▪️ UNDP: Launching a real-time risk data platform to guide decisions across 15,000 indicators. #CRAFd2024Recap:Conflict prevention starts with foresight! This year, the VIEWS Prediction Challenge brought researchers together to redefine how we forecast and respond to global crises, making every prediction count. Supported by CRAF'd, VIEWS a collaboration between PRIO and Uppsala University has gone beyond traditional forecasting methods. By incorporating uncertainty estimates, the challenge bridges the gap between predictive science and real-world decision-making. These insights empower policymakers to prepare not just for likely outcomes but also for high-risk scenarios that demand urgent attention. The results are now live on the VIEWS Prediction Challenge Dashboard, offering interactive forecasts that are shaping responses to crises worldwide. #CRAFd2024Recap: In July, OCHA Centre for Humanitarian Data hosted the first-ever Humanitarian Data Forum, celebrating 10 years of the Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) in The Hague. With the support of CRAF’d and partners, the three-day forum brought together 160+ participants from 70 organizations across 42 countries, including representatives from UN agencies, NGOs, governments, the private sector, and academia. Over three days, participants reflected on the past decade, exchanged insights, and co-created a roadmap to strengthen humanitarian data systems.
