I delayed writing about the 2nd International Scientific conference in Poland that I recently had the pleasure of presenting at until I was back at my desk, which I now am. I won’t lie, I am already missing the European summer… my brain is still trying to wrap itself around the fact that we went from lovely and hot to freezing cold and so many layers of clothing that I can barely move. First, I’d like to say thank you to Andrzej Kinteh-Kłosiński, Beata Leszczyńska, Piotr Leszczynski, Ewa Pasikowska, Magdalena Michałek, and the COAPE Polska and Krakow University teams for hosting and taking such good care of me during the weekend’s events. (Beata, you deserve a special thank you for keeping me upright on that ladder!) The conference was such fun. I met a whole lot of amazing people and enjoyed myself thoroughly listening to the other wonderful lecturers. The topics that were covered were great, the audience interactions were brilliant, and the event was a resounding success. I also had the pleasure of holding the Polish translation of Mood Matters for the first time – I am simply blown away that my first book has already been translated into two languages! For me, it never gets old being at a conference in person surrounded by like-minded people who share your passion about animal emotions – it’s like Christmas. And much like Christmas, I received a gift from the Polish CAPBT that left me speechless. I am having this framed and it’s going on the wall, for sure.

  • Barbara Schröter, COAPE graduate and CABTi member, is the proud owner of "Happy Dog Happy Owner". With a background as a theatre nurse and decades of global living, her life has been enriched with diverse experiences. During her seven years living in Uganda, she authored "Gimme One" A Ugandan Dog Diary, a book describing life in Uganda through the eyes of her four dogs. This book, available in both German and English, is still listed on Amazon and has greatly influenced Barbara's approach to dog training. At the core of Barbara's training philosophy is a focus on enhancing dog-human communication. She specialize in handling dog encounters and providing coaching for owners, crucial for everyday interactions. Additionally, she conducts social walks with small groups to ensure personalized attention and support. Behavioural cases begin their journey with her by completing a comprehensive questionnaire and then using methods that place the pet's feelings at the heart of the treatment, leading to enlightening, fun, and often surprising journeys toward improved behaviour and relationships. Now, at 71, Barbara is more passionate than ever about helping every human-dog team that comes her way. At "Happy Dog Happy Owner", she believes that to change an animal's behaviour, we must first refine our own.

  • In the dynamic world of pet care, addressing the physical needs of our animal companions is only part of the equation. As responsible pet owners and enthusiasts, we must recognize and prioritize the mental well-being of our beloved pets. This brings us to the crucial concept of mental stimulation – a key element in ensuring that our pets lead fulfilling, enriched lives.
