Today, the Ministry of Health, Zambia, with Unitaid and CHAI support, unveiled two bulk liquid medical oxygen tanks at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital and Livingstone Teaching Hospital—a critical step toward #UniversalHealthCoverage. The tanks will help alleviate medical oxygen needs at the two hospitals and surrounding areas. The upgrades at Livingstone Teaching Hospital include comprehensive oxygen reticulation across all units and wards, the construction of a manifold room, guaranteeing bedside access for all patients. These investments were further complemented with the provision of essential oxygen delivery devices and monitoring equipment such as patient monitors, oxygen sensors, and infusion pumps which have since been distributed across all tertiary hospitals in Zambia. This initiative strengthens Zambia's healthcare system and supports equitable access to lifesaving medical oxygen. #InvestInOxygen #UniversalHealthCoverage USAID

In 2020, Nigeria began implementing a package of care for Advanced HIV Disease (AHD), which includes opportunistic infection management, rapid antiretroviral initiation, and adherence support. The country rolled out the package at select facilities before expanding nationwide. We are pleased to present our latest study—published in BMC Public Health—from the AHD phased implementation in Nigeria, led by CHAI and funded by Unitaid, which shares key lessons from the first phase of this implementation and offers valuable insights into improving care for people living with HIV. These insights include: ✅Implementation of the AHD package of care, including same-day CD4 testing, is feasible and will not impair the “test and treat” policy ✅Implementation of the AHD package of care will improve the diagnosis and treatment of TB and CM, the two major causes of death among PLHIV ✅The study demonstrated that AHD is associated with increased mortality, and providing necessary AHD care will reduce AIDS-related death ✅The delivery of the AHD package of care requires a review of client flow in the facilities for an effective public health approach Please follow the link to read the full article👉: https://ow.ly/PLWv50UmkKK

Many people with disabilities lack access to the assistive technology they need due to market failures, including limited access to critical information. A major challenge for governments and procurement agencies in low- and middle-income countries is the absence of reliable data on product offerings, quality, and reference prices—key barriers to effectively sourcing assistive products. On November 28, CHAI supported ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology and the China Assistive Devices and Technology Center in hosting an international dialogue at the Care & Rehabilitation Expo, China’s largest event in this field. This initiative aimed to bridge the information gap between buyers and suppliers and improve access to assistive technology globally. During the event, Ritubhan Gautam and Shaoyu(Yolanda) Liang from CHAI shared key findings from the Assistive Products Market Report 2024. This comprehensive report consolidates essential market information to empower buyers in low- and middle-income countries to make informed procurement decisions. Frederic Seghers, CHAI’s Senior Director of the Global Assistive Technology Team, and Yizi Yang, CHAI’s China Country Director, led panel discussions exploring the assistive technology market landscape in low- and middle-income countries. They also addressed the challenges and opportunities for Chinese suppliers aiming to enter the global market. This dialogue provided a vital platform for fostering collaboration and advancing global access to assistive technology. #MarketShaping #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilitiesWeek #Accessibility #AssistiveTech #HealthForAll

📢Join CHAI, World Health Organization-AFRO and UNICEF virtually or in-person tomorrow at 8:30 am EAT for a discussion on integrated campaign digitization at the Global Digital Health Forum ✍Register: https://www.gdhf.digital/ ✨Topic: Integrated Campaign Digitization: How to Leverage People, Processes, and Systems across Health Domains ✨Time: 07:30 am CAT/08:30 am EAT ✨Location: Main Stage (JW Marriot Nairobi) Public health campaigns have long been important instruments for delivering healthcare interventions for programs addressing malaria, malnutrition, and vaccination. As these campaigns dedicate resources toward achieving clear objectives during a defined period, they can be efficient tools for delivering priority health services, complementing services provided through integrated health systems. In practice, however, many campaigns face challenges in reaching their desired populations and effectively using resources. (1) They suffer from logistical complexities in efficiently moving commodities and managing expansive teams of workers in remote settings, (2) they operate in siloes, independently collecting and managing data on populations and households, and running campaigns in the same areas independently, and (3) Ministries of health and local stakeholders often have limited ownership or visibility into campaigns, particularly because campaigns are frequently run independent of and not integrated with routine health systems. This session will discuss the evidence, lessons, and resources for digitizing public health campaigns in an integrated manner - leveraging technologies and infrastructure and sharing data across campaigns and with routine data systems. Discussions will include: 1. The Integrated Campaign Digitization toolkit 2. Sharing technologies, data, and hardware across multiple campaigns 3. Leveraging routine health information systems for campaigns 4. Driving campaign digitization through community health information systems
