Yesterday Unitaid, alongside Goverment stakeholders, and its partners CHAI, MedAccess and PATH, launched a US$22 million investment to support three Kenyan and Tanzanian liquid oxygen (LOX) manufacturers in establishing: #Africas_first_medical_oxygen_regional_manufacturing_program The initiative focuses on East and Southern Africa, with LOX production facilities in Kenya and Tanzania aimed at increasing medical oxygen access across the region. This is Africa’s first regional manufacturing approach to increasing access to medical oxygen. The program aims to expand medical oxygen production by 300% in East Africa, and reduce oxygen prices by up to 27%, making it more affordable for health care systems across the region, and enabling treatment of thousands of additional patients each month. This initiative is a testament to the importance of collaboration and innovation in building resilient #healthcare systems, especially in underserved regions. Under the RISE-NISHTHA initiative (https://lnkd.in/gE__x__F) we collaborated with partners to build a digital solution to enhance the oxygen ecosystem for the country. One of the visions of this project was to #collaborate across borders and share our learnings to build better and stronger ecosystems. At our core, we have been rooted in the power of #innovative solutions and #partnerships to enhance #communication and capacity building. A research article entitled "#Prevalence of Migraine in Saudi Arabia and the #Proposed Introduction of #Eptinezumab: A Pooled and #Meta-Analysis from #Clinical Trials" has been published in our Journal of Clinical Medicine & Health Care. Written by Ibrahim Alkhattabi, Khulood AlRaddadi, and Aisha AlRaddadi #ABSTRACT #Introduction: Chronic migraines (CM) affect a significant portion of the Saudi population, yet patients lack access to Eptinezumab, a drug with proven preventive efficacy and a strong safety record. This analysis aims to evaluate Eptinezumab’s effectiveness in managing CM and advocate for its availability to Saudi patients. #Methods: We performed a meta-analysis of data from two clinical trials registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (Identifiers: NCT02275117 and NCT02974153), involving patients treated with 100mg or 300mg doses of Eptinezumab or a placebo, delivered through IV infusion. #Results: The analysis included data from over 1400 individuals, revealing that Eptinezumab significantly reduces MMDs, with the 300mg dosage being more effective than the 100mg. The 300mg dose reduced MMDs by an average of -8.2 days, while the 100mg dose achieved a reduction of -7.7 days. #Discussion: Our findings confirm the substantial benefits of Eptinezumab in reducing the burden of CM, with both dosages showing effectiveness. The 300mg dose, in particular, provides a greater reduction in MMDs. These results, paired with the drug’s excellent safety profile, suggest that Eptinezumab would be a valuable addition to the treatment options available to Saudi patients. #Conclusion: The administration of Eptinezumab at the studied dosages demonstrates prolonged preventive effects on CM with minor side effects. BPM CEO Tseng Tzu-Ling Leads Delegation to Saudi Arabia for DNlite-IVD103 Validation Pilot Study in Arabian Population. Riyadh, September 16-17, 2024 – Tseng Tzu-Ling, CEO of Bio Preventive Medicine (BPM), led a delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish key collaborations in the field of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). The visit comes on the heels of BPM receiving the SFDA certificate for their DNlite-IVD103 product, which focuses on DKD management and kidney transplantation. During their visit, BPM collaborated with prominent key opinion leader, Professor Khalid Al-Rubeaan from the Research and Scientific Center at Sultan bin Abdulaziz Humanitarian City. The objective of this partnership is to validate DNlite-IVD103 with the Arabian population and assess the sensitivity of uPTM-FetA for early prediction and progression of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. Recent findings presented at the 2024 EASD annual meeting reveal that Saudi Arabia has the highest diabetes prevalence and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) incident rates in the world. The diabetes prevalence rate is projected to increase to 35% by 2035, with 50% of the population potentially facing diabetes-related complications, including pre-diabetes cases. Notably, the Arabian population exhibits the fastest progression of DKD globally, occurring at a rate four times faster than that observed in Europe. This alarming statistic highlights the urgency of addressing DKD and improving patient outcomes in the region. 🌟 Exciting insights from the 17th annual conference on Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) in Riyadh – SAPH2024! SAPH2024 showcased an impressive scientific program led by numerous global PH specialists. Organizers emphasized that the conference marked another successful collaboration between SAPH and the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI) 🤝, aiming to enhance understanding and management of PH in the Middle East and North Africa. Notable change this year included presentations by patient association representatives. PHA Europe was represented by Hall Skaara, who, in light of global collaboration at #SAPH2024, shared insights into PHA Europe's impactful work and unveiled the newly opened Bel Air Center. Keynote sessions covered precision medicine and PH developments 🧬, while subsequent sessions explored promising drugs like Sotartecept and Seralutinib.
