We estimate that global individual giving now reaches US$1.3 trillion annually. A figure measured both in terms of unpaid volunteer hours and monetary donations in our latest Citi GPS Global Giving report. Our findings include: 🔹 Individuals in the U.S. give the most in absolute monetary terms and as a percentage of national output with institutional giving on the rise. 🔹 Asia and the Pacific lead the way in terms of volunteer hours given. Earlier this week we celebrated Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, at Citi headquarters in New York at a lively event co-sponsored by Citi Asian Heritage Network and the Citi Markets Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) group. Attendees joined Asian Heritage Network Co-Leads, Ida Liu, and Shahmir Khaliq, and heard from many leaders from across Citi, who spoke about the significance of Diwali, including a panel discussion moderated by Erika Irish Brown (she/her) and keynote speeches from Vis Raghavan and Debopama Sen. The celebration drew a packed house of colleagues, who enjoyed prasad – sweets that represent blessings – and performances of traditional Indian dance.

    • A group of Citi executives take to the stage to discuss the meaning of Diwali.

I had the honor of speaking about personal banking for today’s consumer with Bloomberg fintech and payments reporter, Emily Mason at Money20/20 this week. We discussed how in an era where digital natives dominate the consumer landscape, our industry is challenged to rethink strategies and offerings to capture the attention and loyalty of younger generations. We explored emerging trends and how Gen Z and Millennials expect the same level of personalization, convenience, and always-on service from banks that they experience in retail but also demand seamless, tech-driven experiences. And we highlighted how Citi is evolving our products, payments and service to create seamless experiences that resonate with customers’ values, sense of purpose and expectations. Thank you to Emily for the discussion and to the Money20/20 team for having us.
