𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑻𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔: More than a meal 🍽️ In the 19th century, cities grew – and so did the distances between home and the workplace. These changes to the working world also transformed the way people ate. Companies looked closely at the link between work and food and discovered that healthy and well-nourished employees were more productive, ill less frequently, and felt a deeper connection with their employers. In 1891, these findings, along with calls from staff, prompted Deutsche Bank to establish its first canteen near its then head office in Berlin. It was meant to be “a place to meet which met employees’ material and immaterial needs”. A place dedicated to offering Deutsche Bank employees good, reasonably priced meals. The practice of eating lunch and dinner together with colleagues was also intended to create a sense of shared identity and belonging. 🤝 But Berlin wasn’t the only place where Deutsche Bank offered its employees a hot meal. As time went on, the bank also set up dining rooms in its main branches. 📸 Our photo gallery shows a menu, dining room, and kitchen at Deutsche Bank’s Berlin head office in the late 1920s, as well as the canteens in Eschborn and Hamburg in 1976, cooks at the Munich branch in 1981, and the cafeteria at our Frankfurt head offices in 1989. It's fascinating to see how employee benefits have evolved! What workplace perks do you value most?
