How do you know if your network relationship is valuable?

In my experience, I would say that aligning your network relationships with specific, strategic goals and evaluating them based on their capacity to contribute to your growth, opportunities, reputation and personal empowerment ensures that your network relationships are indeed valuable and meaningful. Just remembering that the value of networking relationships must have the following attributes : strategic goal alignment, learning & growth, opportunity expansion, reputation building, network reciprocity, long-term perspective and impactful & personal engagement.

In my experience, your goals should align with what you hope to achieve through the mentorship, and it's important to communicate these goals clearly with your mentor to ensure a productive relationship.

Something that I've noticed with LinkedIn is that people like to connect just to connect with no guide on why it is important to determine what you are looking for before hitting the connect or follow buttons. Seek those who have the skills or expertise you are looking for...then reach out to see if those professionals can help you be a better you. Sometimes in the art of networking, it's those simple things that are missed.

A valuable network relationship is where both parties benefit from sharing information, support, and opportunities. You should be able to depend on your contact to keep promises and provide honest feedback. Open communication is essential, with both parties feeling comfortable sharing ideas and concerns. The relationship should offer support, especially in tough times, and contribute to your professional growth by providing opportunities and new insights. Positive influence, inspiration, and consistent engagement over time further indicate a valuable relationship.

It depends on your communication and understanding. And most importantly your commitment. I believe that network relationships build up in your discipline and commitment. If you have fulfilled your commitment to your clients or another person at the end of the day your value of networking is increasing.
