What to Buy Trending Products & Deals I Use This Big Pasta Bowl Every Single Day, and It Costs Less Than My Starbucks Order I couldn’t recommend it enough. By Karla Walsh Karla Walsh Karla Walsh is a Des Moines, Iowa-based freelance lifestyle writer with more than 15 years of journalism experience. Visiting restaurants helped her fall in love with food while conquering an eating disorder, and she's been a fan of—and passionate about—chefs, cooking, and all things culinary ever since. Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on March 19, 2024 Photo: Target If you’ve never heard of a pasta bowl, it’s about time you did. The beauty of modern-day pasta bowls is that their wide and shallow format with low yet substantial enough walls means that they work beautifully for pasta and so much more. It’s like the goldilocks of tableware. And recently, I found the perfect one at Target. It’s sleek, stylish, and check this out: It costs less than a Starbucks coffee. For something I use every single day, that’s a steal. Threshold Stoneware 36-Ounce Dinner Bowl Target $4 at Target A plate works for some recipes, but for many, it’s too flat and makes it all-too-easy to drip or spill over the edges. A cereal bowl is nice for grains and other goodies like ice cream and a scoop of fruit cobbler, but the deep well forces you to stack ingredients on top of each other, which leads to the lower levels being hidden. A pasta bowl, and this one specifically, allows me to use the sizable surface area base of the bowl to spread food out so it’s easier to build a balanced bite, all while keeping ingredients nicely corralled by the low walls. I got this pasta bowl 3 months ago, and ever since, I’ve pretty much abandoned my plates. Thanks to the size of this 36-ounce bowl, I can pretend like I’m a food stylist and plate with flair, whether I’m having a Salmon Rice Bowl, Cobb Salad, or my new obsession, Shrimp Scampi with Garlicky Miso Butter. Come breakfast, it works really nicely for poached eggs, toast, and bacon or Tangy Buttermilk Pancakes topped with fresh fruit and syrup. I adore the fact that they’re available separately. That means you can try one of the 9-inch wide by 1 ¾-inch tall bowls in black, white, or gray without commiting to a whole set if you’re unsure if you’ll use or like it. But spoiler alert: It’s hard not to fall in love. Besides the versatility, this bowl has a substantial weight for its size, which makes me feel like I’m dining at a chic restaurant. But each bowl will run you less than a soda at most bistros, and definitely less than the Grande Chai Latte I sometimes treat myself to at Starbucks for $4.55. It’s dishwasher-safe, and easy to clean, too. So what are you waiting for? Add at least one of these pasta bowls to your cart today, and thank me later.
