Food & Wine's Editorial Guidelines Published on January 11, 2024 Photo: Food & Wine / Amazon Having hosted my fair share of parties, from small get-togethers to larger dinners with friends and family, I've often faced the challenge of dealing with leftover food. Finding the best food storage solutions has become a familiar routine as I sift through cupboards trying to find my storage containers. My Amazon wish-list always has some sort of food storage container on it, mainly because I want to store the excess food and minimize food waste. Thankfully, I stumbled upon Souper Cubes, and it has proven to be a game-changer, providing an excellent food storage solution, especially when I’m cooking in big batches. Souper Cubes Silicone Freezer Food Storage Amazon $35 at Amazon Souper Cubes are silicone freezer trays, but they go beyond just freezing leftovers. In fact, they have become my go-to solution for meal prep, baking, and freezing food in perfectly measured portions. Whether it's soups, sauces, homemade stocks, or gravies, these molds have become an indispensable kitchen storage solution. The Souper Cubes look (and function) like an ice tray, but are meant for soup. Made of silicone, they are durable, flexible, microwave- and dishwasher-safe. But they also offer precise measurements with 1/2 cup and 1 cup indicators on one side and 125 and 250-milliliter measurements on the other. This will ensure you get accurate portion control for various recipes. What I appreciate most about Souper Cubes is their sturdy construction. The steel rim secures the lid to provide added support and food protection, eliminating worries about spills that you might encounter if you used an ice tray instead. One of my favorite parts about them is that they can seamlessly transition from freezer to oven, which is perfect when using the Souper Cubes as a meal prep container for meals like personal-sized lasagnas or chicken parm. Each Souper Cube can handle temperatures up to a maximum of 415°F. For an easy meal prep option, I freeze soups or broths, pop them out, and transfer the frozen food cubes into freezer bags. A one-gallon freezer bag can easily hold up to eight frozen cubes, making freezer meals a breeze. When I’m ready to cook a portion of soup, I just pop it out of the tray, into a microwave-safe bowl, and place it in the microwave to reheat. One of the many benefits of using Souper Cubes as a meal prep container and food storage is helping to reduce food waste. In fact, I started using the Souper Cubes right before the holidays, and I haven’t had to worry about forgotten (and spoiled) leftovers in the fridge because I put them in the freezer trays and immediately pop them into the freezer. The trays are available in four colors and offer different sizes for any storage needs. Souper Cubes even makes specialized versions of its trays. There’s a two-tablespoon freezer tray that’s perfect for concentrated broth and stocks, a half-cup freezer tray that’s ideal for juices or salsas, and a two-cup freezer tray that’s ideal for larger portions of soups. There’s even a gift set if you can’t decide which to grab. Personally, my favorite are the 1 cup options, as I find them the most versatile. For just $17 apiece, these are my weeknight meal heroes.
