According to Pinterest Predicts — Pinterest’s annual breakout trend predictions created by using search trend data from its 482 million users — maximalism will be taking over our kitchens in 2024. Thanks to the uptick in search trends around eclectic kitchen decor, retro pink kitchens, and kitsch aesthetics, kitschens — or kitsch kitchens — are coming in. How exactly do you make your kitchen kitsch? It’s all about implementing eye-catching pops of color, vintage designs, thrifted finds, and eccentric or novelty accents. Keep it simple by adding a dessert-shaped candle to your table, get a little more invested by building a collection of vintage-inspired ice cream bowls, or fully dive in by covering your neutral backsplash with a colorful alternative. If you want to add some warmth and whimsy to your kitchen, but aren’t exactly sure where to start, keep reading to see a few kitchen additions that just might help you master the trend. Best Kitsch Kitchen Products at Amazon Smart Tiles Peel and Stick Backsplash, $31 Lily's Home Retro Kitchen Wall Clock, $22 Impresa Ravioli Spoon Rest, $10 Ban.do Orange Juice Vase, $27 (originally $32) Grs Cinnamon Roll Candle, $25 Dish Scrubbie Fruit Variety Pack, $18 Sizikato 30-Ounce Water Carafe, $25 Jacquotha Hand Towels, $23 Whole Housewares Glass Ice Cream Bowls, $24 (originally $30) Smart Tiles Peel and Stick Backsplash Amazon $31 at Amazon One of the easiest ways to refresh your space is with peel-and-stick tiles and wallpaper. If you own your home, it’s a simple way to try out different designs before committing to an entire kitchen renovation. If you’re a renter, you can easily cover the boring white, beige, or brown backsplash your landlord bestowed upon you without worrying about losing that security deposit you’ll eventually want back. Lily's Home Retro Kitchen Wall Clock Amazon $22 at Amazon Another quick way to lean into a design trend you’re wanting to explore is upgrading your basics. This colorful retro clock will swiftly replace the classic counter-top kitchen timer you bought years ago. It tells time, records the temperature in the room, and has a 60-minute timer that can be adjusted in five-minute increments. Impresa Ravioli Spoon Rest Amazon $10 at Amazon This is the housewarming gift I’d get for any maximalist (or pasta-loving) friend. It’s large enough to hold two spoons and will look adorable sitting next to their stove. Plus, if you really want to lean into the “wait, is this edible?” theme, you could bundle it with these farfalloni-shaped pot holders for a unique gift set. Ban.do Orange Juice Vase ban.do $32 $27 at Amazon As someone who can’t pass a flower stand without buying at the least a small bundle for herself, I have a solid vase collection at home. A few were thrifted, some from arrangements sent to me from friends or exes, and a couple I couldn’t resist ordering, like this orange-juice carton. It’s big enough to fit a small bouquet without taking up too much counter space (it measures 2.75 by 2.75 by 9.75 inches ) and gets compliments anytime someone new sees it. The brand also makes other fun designs — a cowboy boot, mushroom, cherry soda can — so it’s safe to say my collection will expand a little more. Grs Cinnamon Roll Candle Amazon $25 at Amazon A friend bought me this cinnamon-scented candle as a birthday gift and it looks so charming sitting on my counter that I can’t fathom actually burning it. It’s small, smells like cinnamon once burned, and looks realistic enough that I wouldn’t be shocked if someone tries to take a bite out of it one of these days. Dish Scrubbie Fruit Variety Pack Amazon $18 at Amazon These fruit-shaped scrubbers are a perfect example of how to swap your more boring basics for kitschy alternatives. They’ll help get the grit and grime off of your dishes and countertops, and look cute while doing it. Plus, they’re dishwasher- and washing machine-safe so you can easily keep them clean and reuse them for months. Sizikato 30-Ounce Water Carafe Amazon $25 at Amazon If you love the idea of introducing more color into your kitchen, but aren’t so sure about bold patterns or eccentric accents, this water carafe might be more your speed. It comes in a small variety of colors and features a rippled texture that’s noticeable enough to be eye catching, while still subtle enough to fit a more mellow approach to the trend. Jacquotha Hand Towels Amazon $23 at Amazon I originally bought these checkered hand towels for my bathroom, but I’d be lying if I said they don’t often find their way to the handle of my oven. They add some life to my fairly neutral kitchen (my landlord’s special touch), are super soft, and are thick enough that I sometimes rely on them when I can’t find my potholders. Whole Housewares Glass Ice Cream Bowls Amazon $30 $24 at Amazon If you want the look of vintage glass without having to hunt through vintage and thrift shops, these footed ice cream bowls will do the trick. If their delicate design and vibrant colors aren’t enough to win you over, just think about how good an ice cream sundae or granita will look scooped into the dish. Was this page helpful?
