David McCann Location: New York City David McCann is a food writer, recipe developer, cooking teacher, actor, and playwright. Creator of the food blog "This Old Chef," he shares his recipes and glimpses of his life and entertaining friends in the 1880 Victorian farmhouse on the Hudson he shares with his husband. In addition to Food & Wine, McCann contributes to Allrecipes, MyRecipes, Extra Crispy, The Kitchn, and others. Experience David McCann has been working in food media for over 40 years. He got his culinary start as a private chef in Los Angeles and a cater-waiter in New York, where he landed in the test kitchen of Food & Wine as an assistant in the 1980s. He has crafted a long career as a recipe developer and food writer — specializing in easy but elegant seasonal recipes, homemade sauces and spices, and helpful kitchen tips. His work has been featured in Everyday with Rachael Ray, Great American Home Cooking, and Food52, among others. When he is not cooking or working on a recipe, David can be found acting in plays across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. He has a particular affinity for Shakespeare.
