New York Police Department officers fatally shot the man who was allegedly responsible for Monday's "hammer attacks" in Union Square.
In a press conference on Wednesday morning, police commissioner Bill Bratton said that two officers shot a man who allegedly participated in a series of hammer attacks in Union Square earlier in the week. Bratton said that neither officer was injured.
According to Buzzfeed, officers followed a suspect, who aburptly pulled out a hammer and began swinging it at an officer. Witnesses told CBS local that the officers opened fire, killing the suspect.

On Monday, a hammer-wielding man from the Bronx attacked four people near Union Square between 1:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., according to the New York Daily News.
Police had posted a $2,500 reward for the man responsible for the attacks.
